And forgot to say - beware crime in St Lucia. The recent tragedy was not an exception unfortunately, Soufriere, the Pitons, Rodney Bay, Gros Islet and the lagoon have all had many recent robberies. Until the authorities do something meaningful best to March with your feet/boat keep away. For too long the crime issue has been swept under the carpet. It is real and bad.

Thanks guys,I will see if I can clear out at airport at worst they say no. I'm not to worried about crime as we will be a crew of 8 and look more like muggers then muggies. I am a bit concerned for the rib though. If we were aloud to night sail I would miss st lucia out and just go straight to bequia I have already decided ti skip st Vincent

I suppose we all see things differently. I chose to retire to this area of the Caribbean and sure there is a fair bit of petty theft but I stop in St Vincent in Wallilabou and Young island cut two or three times a year. I always pay for a 'Beach Front Service Provider' to tie my line to shore in Wallilabou and sometimes take a ball in Young Island cut. Things are tough for the people there especially those who had there homes damaged or washed away in the storm on Christmas eve.

The cruising community has been collecting basic supplies and moving then to the worse affected areas. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.580466128700678&type=1

Yes there have been two pretty horrific attacks in the last 12 months but I think I will be happy to keep cruising the Windward and Leewards however I avoid Vieux Fort in St Lucia and Chateaubelair in St Vincent.

You can see the list of crimes here, scroll down to St Lucia: http://www.safetyandsecuritynet.com/the-northern-windward-islands-martinique-st-lucia-barbados/

The crime level is not very high, it's nothing out of the ordinary and no reason not to go there. 1 crime in 2104, three in 2013 and 4 in 2012.

Not so sure! Sorry to disagree. You are talking of reported incidents. Sadly, the safety and Security net is no longer what it was. Another net general comms net (Coconut) takes place at the same time & is widely supported. No one seems very interested in he SSN so I suspect he true picture does not emerge. Nevertheless the crime rate as indicated this way is about 10 times that of , say, Antigua. The murder rate is 22nd in the world. That is approx 25 times the rate in UK!
They still advise in St Lucia not to go outside the marina gates for example unless In a group. To take exceptional care in Gros Islet & so on. That is not acceptable. Remaining in the gated areas may be fine and safe - and not a requirement elsewhere, save Venezuela.
There is no doubt that St Lucia is potentially very dangerous. One might wish to BELIEVE it is safe but the facts speak for themselves and indicate otherwise.
St Lucia needs to take action. Rental accompanies and the ARC need to apply pressure. The situation as now simply should not be accepted
