Can we stop whining and get back to Boaty Club style stuff ??

I beg your pardon ......

Considering that a) I am not one to do anything without cause and b) I resent your attempt to character assasinate ...

I can only assume that you have plucked completely out of context and thread a reference to Tourism in the Baltic .... "which was in direct REPLY to anothers prompt ...."

I am not a person to step into that mudhole without good reason ....

You are bang out of order and I hope you take the effort to go back and read the thread properly - IF thats what you refer to - because I cannot for the life of me think of anything else remotely connected to the tripe you have just posted.

Someone posted Lighten up Nigel .... Boy - what a wrong time to post that ... you really have cut the quick haven't you "Sgeir" .... and I generally reagrded you as sensible and fair .....

No character assassination

No character assassination - you posted a link to a sex tourism company. I've reread the post, and yes, it's still there.

Perhaps you didn't realise?

EDIT: If it was a link that you hadn't checked out, or an error, then I have done you an injustice, and I do unreservedly apologise. But I'm afraid that the link is precisely what I stated above.

I can see nothing in Nigel's post that would suggest he has anything to say about 'good taste' or 'yachtiness'. All he is asking for is a little focus in the way we use the forums.

To see you launch an attack on him in such a contrived way is dissappointing.

Given the time it can take to go through a few threads to see if there is anything of personal interest it would be great not to find so many that seem innappropriate to that particular forum.

It doesn't sound unreasonable to me.

I have no problem with the Lounge. It can be funny, provocative and interesting at times but I know what to expect when I visit. It is a right royal pain to find that kind of material in the practical and boaty forums when it has just taken several long minutes to open the damn thread.

I repeat ....

You take it out of context and was not an attempt to promote or condone such sites ....

It was a direct response to a post and trend in that THREAD .....

You are singling out a post without looking at the thread and contents prior and surrounding it .... which if I remember rightly was actually running a "fun" path ...

The fact that a link was made - was precisely the reply to the thread - not an advertising stunt .... and certainly not to get such a post from yourself - obviously completely missing the points of this and the other thread ....

Finally comparing what YOU say is a misdmeanour - to a lot of "sexually" orientated links / posts / pictures etc. is a joke in itself !! So why I should be singled out - when many others on forums have posted what I consider worse ... is beyond me ....... But I don't get on the backs of those people who post such items ... I possibly look and move on ... consigning it to the respective bin ...

Get a life .... return to your normal reasonable self please ...

I'm struggling to understand why you have made this kind of comment to Nigel?

You have actually given a good illustration of the original point, IMO. The post you refer to was made in the lounge.

Nigel has my full agreement on his original point of this thread.

Jim

Have back-checked .... you really have made a mistake !!

Sgeir ..... please check this thread properly ........... I suggest that you concentrate on Forum ID : Joe17

http://www.ybw.com/forums/showflat.php?C...true#Post845221

Joe17 actually posted the link - NOT me and I actually in posts surrounding that commented on how bad the Lager-louts were getting in baltic .....

Seems you have missed the post ...... thats a Pun !!!

QED methinks ....

I'm actually Jimi, but have trashed my usual Id because of the problems here. I do'nt like the lounge, not because it is non boaty but because it has a high proportion of sleaze in it, which is not to my taste. My perception was that boaty was PBO, SB was chatty, lounge was sleaze. NOw PBO and SB occupy the same domain. I don't like the lounge so I'm not posting here anymore unless it a boaty related question, in which case I'll post it in PBO.

Jimi ....

Isn't that the gist of a few posts that are coming up over last few weeks ....

I didn't say anything at the time .... but you and I seem to have similar reason for ID change .... the first I have ever done in the many years on these forums .....

Lounge took away some of the rubbish and non-boaty stuff ... good. But then it started to drift around showing up on various forums and also with some nasty moments and attacks on people .... That is why I started this thread ...

I hope that you Jimi are not one to up and go ... as well as some others I can think off .... the forums have had a wide ranging clientele base and varied knowledge base - it is sad to think that actions of some may cause old-hands and new to limit further input ....

Re: Have back-checked .... you really have made a mistake !!

Oh Nigel, I wish I'd never dredged this up now. But yes, I have back-checked, and the thread called "Why Maths taught in school" does contain the link, posted by you, to which I referred.

You obviously meant it to be light-hearted, but nevertheless it's a link from YBW to a sleaze site. Where do you draw the line?

I usually enjoy your posts, but felt you were preaching. If you weren't, I apologise. I shall take your good advice and get a life.

Look I have a problem

Does anyone else have trouble getting the clamp on the jockey wheel to hold the casing firmly?
I'm finding it disconcerting if the trailer suddenly slides down the jockey wheel casing, or is it just a one off on my trailer?

Now get your teeth into that and all stop moaning!

Same mistake I\'m afraid ....

Ok - I've searched and dug out the "offending" post ... actually two in same thread .... They were posted in same tongue in cheek style and reason as the other about Tallinn ....
Prompted by anothers post in that thread .....

I fully realise that some class posts different to others - that is part of being human and different.

Compared to such things as "Womans Breasts" presently on one forum .... haven't opened the thread - cause to me it means another childs posting ... which is FIRST post creating that thread .... my reply to an already established thread pales into insignficance.

Jokes are Jokes and they were on a forum that is supposed to be tolerant of such light-hearted spikes .....

If anyone seriously thinks I am promoting sleaze etc. - then they haven't read many of my posts etc. where I have stayed away from it ....

Sgeir - we react differently to posts - that is life and I don't object ... but please give me some slack - as nothing was meant to upset or be objectionable.

Truce eh ??

Re: Same mistake I\'m afraid ....

I've exchanged PMs with Nigel - there was a dodgy link, but I'm convinced Nigel did it in good faith and did not mean to offend.

For my part, I shot from the hip and should not have - I unreservedly apologise to Nigel.

The trouble is, since making my ham-fisted overreaction, I see other forumites have chosen to raise the temperature in the Lounge. That's their choice, but I feel uncomfortable with it.

The whole problem is what is boaty/interesting/funny/sleazy/boring? Eye of the beholder I suppose. I'm no role model myself, so I certainly shouldn't go round lecturing others - although sometimes I can't resist it. But I think we have to be careful about drawing the line, otherwise (and I accept Nigel's fundamental point) others will do it for us.

Iam with Sgeir and apologise to all ...

The link I posted that Sgeir refers to actually led to a different page to that which I intended - I stupidly did not check it worked correctly .... so instead of seeing a nice clean, well presented montage of Baltic girls faces from a dating agency - it went to a "sleaze" site that I would never intentionally post ..

My apology and I will check better in future.
