Milford Haven Marina, nothing wrong with facilities, it is just well um, boring, I will never call in again, they surcherged me for being a multi and stuck me a mile from facilities.

Stopped in Dale on second visit back up, nice anchorage or if I go that way next time I will carry on up river out of the industrial uglyness. Neyland Marina is supposed to be very nice.

If it wasn't for Milford Marina I would have been writing Aberystwith, expensive for absolutely no reason what so ever. The staff are unhelpful and I was late leaving because the guy who ran the fuel pump was busy tinkering on his boat. Also there is very little to do in the town and all the resturants seemed to close at 8pm.

The Village of Penze...

at the top of the Penze River in Brittany.

All the marker buoys are either missing or off station. so you can end up drying out on the side of a mud escarpment when the plug is pulled out

You get chased along the last three miles by the mooring superintendent wanting his blood money.

The dumbell moorings damage your gelcoat.

The one and only restaurant is only open on Thursdays.

The one and only shop sells past date merchandise which has been baked in the sun in the front window.
Oh and the place is just plain ugly.

Dophin - No. Island Harbour - yes

Dolphin, Poole is fine - at least they take telephone bookings. The staff aren't as professional as an MDL site, and the shower block is badly designed to handle heavy use, but the marina is clean, with decent pontoons and the location is great.

My most hated place is Island Harbour. Last year its was a filthy dump, with staff that couldnt care, and the most disgusting loos ever.

Have the new management made any significant improvements yet?

we spent a few days in the new marina alongside the town quay and found it no worse than most marinas on the south coast with the benefit of being next to all the summer evening festivities. we enjoyed live music, jugglers and fireworks all for free.

Agreed

Mexico City - the only place where I have had a gun pulled out and put on the table in front of me - in the course of a meeting about chartering a ship - by a Trades Union official with diamond cuff links. Chicken in chocolate sauce is disgusting. The air is foul. Bits of the place keep falling off because of earthquakes. The VW Beetle is not the world's finest taxi....one could go on for pages....

Re: Agreed

I would have to disagree about Mexico City, I loved the place, mind you I went there during Semana Santa when everywhere was closed, it was like a ghost town with cheap beer. Now Acapulco on the other hand.....couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Apart from the Mexico visitors - what a sheltered life you have all led. Try visiting Aden sometime! In 1962 we were thankful for the hospitality of the RN Minesweeper Squadron but Steamer Point was a hell hole. Port Said was a bit grim, too. We had an Egyptian policeman posted on board 'for your protection'. Got a bit concerned when we found him cleaning his revolver with one up the spout. Managed to get him removed - to a dinghy tied aongside. Accompanied by security men every time we went ashore and I don't think even MDL do that, do they?

Re: Nooooo way

Mexico City rocks.. Chillie and chocolate are fab .. food wonderful.. guanabana drink called Boing.. Mezcal.. delicous beer.. everything from a delectible "blonde" to a serious dark guiness almost.. similar to the Orkney Dark Island yummmmm
.. Zona Rosa..best clubs I've salsa'd in... best contemporary art I've ever seen.. Museo Nacional de Antropoligica.. one of the worlds best museums.. and I could rave on.. downsides are the same for most cities of the world..

Of course the real drawback is you can't sail there!

boats wash and tide 24/7, and only one good eatery and noisy sand pit diggers working all day......Lesardriaux.
I know it's most english boat's first port of call but it's the pits of Brittany IMHO

Puerto Colon - Colon an Anatomical Term

Puerto Colon.

Check your list of body parts - it´s the only correctly named harbour in Spain.

Even if you enter the harbour they get all excited and have been known to call the police while you turn to get out and try to charge you for docking without authourisation.

It is a Spanish thing.

I thought we were talking about europe, but if you are travelling further afield, try Lagos, nigeria, the only place I have found that would benefit from a nuclear test, on the surface! or Ras tanura, Saudi, or Bombay docks, Equitorial Gunea, all of it! theres thousands of real shitholes and I've visited a lot of them, but as a yachtsman, nah! Why?

Lagos Soap Factory Dock ..... or the next up the river - the Slaughter House Quay.

\"Marlboro Country\".....

Before finally awardng the "palm" to Nigeria, perhaps we should consider the rival, but cooler (much cooler!) claims of the Leningrad Seamen's Mission, in the days of Brezhnev, Constanza in the days of Nicolae Ceausescu, or (not that I was there, but I heard about it) Shanghai during the Cultural Revolution?

Oh, and what about Bandar Abbas? Or Bandar Khomeini? Or indeed the whole of Iran?

No, on thinking about it, you are right; it has to be Nigeria...
