Can Tacktick stuff talk to Raymarine stuff?

I may have to replace my ST50 wind MHU. If so, might go Tacktick. Can I set this to speak to the rest of the kit, which is Raymarine?
 
It could before digital yacht went bust- I think.

( I am worse than useless when it comes to boaties lecktronix but have a mate with this set up)
 
A friend managed to get his Tacktick talking to a Garmin GPS using NEAMA so it should be possible but it was not straight forward and needed technical help from somewhere. Isn't Digital Yacht a separate company selling AIS?
 
A few years back on my old boat, I got a Raymarine tiller pilot to take feeds from Tacktick wind instruments and a Furuno GPS - worked faultlessly to steer to waypoints and relative to the wind and not hard to wire up. Raymarine, Tacktick and Furuno all provided excellent wiring information, but I don't know about Garmin.

Quite right Nigel - well said.

The MHU Vane has just lost its tail and the bearings needed some lube last year to keep going. Have found a ST50 service kit from MES for £30, and will give it a go, but I suppose I'm trying to condition myself to the possibility that it might need a replacement. Another MHU transducer seems to be £425 :eek: so I thought I best look at alternatives.

Hoping the service kit does the trick - REALLY hoping...
 
That kit is only the vane and the cups it does not include the bearings but they are quite easy to obtain (3mm ID, 8mm OD, 4mm thick, 2 each for direction and speed) and not too difficult to fit, there are previous threads on it.
The bearings for the vane are more difficult to do than for the cups. In dismantling that part it's very easy to break one or both of the two sensors. Replacement sensors are about £20 each from RS. Yes I learned the hard way and can dig out part numbers if needed.

In answer to your original question, doesn't the Tacktick have an NMEA output that will go straight into a Raymarine autopilot or multi display?
As Tacktick is now part of Raymarine, one would hope they would be happy to advise!

Thanks Troubador. I'm hoping the kit will sort the problem, but it's great to know of someone who has already done a refurb and who doesn't mind being called upon for advice! First job is a trip up the mast. I'll take it from there!

Digital yacht and Tacktick are two different companies, when I spoke to DY a couple of weeks ago they were very much in business, Tacktick were bought by Raymarine about two years ago. The entry level wind unit wasn't NMEA out of the box but needed another interface box to make it NMEA. All the stuff is NMEA compliant now I think.
 
Have just connected a Tacktick 'Wireless interface' to an ST 2000 so that the tiller pilot can be controlled by the wireless masthead windvane. The boat is ashore but it seems to be working well. We had a minor problem but an e-mail to Raymarine customer support brought an easily understood answer in less than 48 hours.

Well searched! Post #8 is tremendously useful, I couldn't find it again.
When I did mine I wasn't careful enough at stage 5 and broke one of the sensors visible in stage 6 they are VERY delicate and cost £20 :mad:
I had a particular problem with the anemometer bearings. The unit had initially seized then started working again. It turned out the shaft had been spinning in the seized lower bearing and the shaft was worn making the new bearing a p*ss fit. It really needed a new shaft but I got away with bearing Loctite, using an old bearing on the unworn section to centre the shaft while it set. There was just enough length on the plastic bush to engage the extra bearing for location. Slight trouble removing it as they stuck together!
So if your unit seizes then starts turning again - don't delay, it gets worse.
BTW RS are now back ordered on bearings until early June, I got the last ones!
