Can someone recommend a surveyor?

The winding up of the East Coast Mutual means I need a surveyor - preferably someone who can get to Foxes in Ipswich or Ipswich Haven - to look at a big old GRP boat during March.

I’ve used Martin Evans for years but Martin is getting hard to get hold of.

I used Dom Buckley of this parish for a boat purchase a couple of years back. Reasonable price, seemed thorough. Took a pragmatic view on some items so maybe good for an insurance survey.

In view of ECMYIA's closing down I have arranged insurance through the broker Richard Walton-Gould of WG Yacht Insurance and the insurer is happy with a self-certification and 2 recent photos showing the general condition of the yacht.

Found mechanical problems on latest purchase which I doubt a non mechanic surveyor would have, also fully qualified structural surveyor.

I’ve managed to get in touch with Martin - he has been working in Greece for the last month, but he can fit me in between moving house and lecturing. Thanks everyone and this may be a useful list for future reference.

When I suggested to my insurers, JGW, that I could self certificate, they said that they preferred a surveyor with professional indemnity. That way, if something vital breaks they could go after him. With self certification they could take the view that I had said everything was good so it is my own liability.
