Can someone help

Ive got a 50 hp 2 stroke 4 cylinder outboard which needs the impeller changing as its knackerd , ive taken it to straford on avon mariner for them to do it , i called him today and he said the lower unit will only drop about 10mm is he doing something wrong because he said hes tapped it with a block of wood and stuff and still wont separate ? how can i remove it as ive got it all running now pleeeeease help as want to get my boat on the water before the summers over :"(

Isn't it something to do with having the gear selector in the right position??

dont mate never done one but i phoned a mate today and he said has he disconncted the gear linkage i dont know if he has done that either

Yep, need to disconnect the gear linkage.

I would be seriously worried if I had taken an engine to a 'professional' and they cant even drop the leg
