When I went aboard this morning I found the pottery dog's bowl I had left in the cockpit almost 1/4 full of seagull poo.

I can only surmise they had been standing on the rim facing outwards! I have left the bowl in the same position to see if it happens again, if so I shall have to think about getting some more bowls as it would be a lot easier to just empty and rinse them than cleaning the sail cover, scrubbing the decks, hatch covers, seats etc.

Hehe......sounds a bit odd......I wouldn't put any more bowls you don't want to encourage the sh*tehawks.
I have found that anything 'swinging' will keep the little darlings away.
I rig up the pickup buoy so that it swings above the foredeck and lead two lines from the shrouds back to the pushpit.
I have lazyjacks so they can't sit on the sailcover, but if you don't have these then a line strung just above the cover should stop them.
Good luck!
