The type of stuff you stain fences with, would anyone go so far as to use Kreosote, (winces in case this is a stupid question)

Obvioulsy this would have to be clear stuff and not woodland green or anything, and It would only be for the internals of a 12ft dinghy.

Any comments greatfully received.

Creosote now banned from sale on the grounds that it will kill you, or shrivel everything up.[ QUOTE ]

but a damn good wood preservative - I think you can still get a licence to buy real creosote - but haven't explored further as found some 'old' stuff lying around in the back of a 'shed'

5 star cuprinol - clear variety. Borates are water soluble and can therefore be washed out of the wood by water. Cuprinol is oil based and doesn't get washed out so easily. I'm not sure that Cuprinol can still be used commercially but it's still available for sale in most DIY sheds.

Salt isn't a bad wood preservative.

There is a cynic standing somewhere behind me saying that if a product is incredibly green and environmentally sensitive, it probably isn't very effective.

Suggest an old Swedish recipe - aroung 25% stockholm tar,and the rest equal qtys of boiled linseed oil and paraffin. Mix up well and apply to clean wood, use Wessex chemicals to get back to teak finish. You can use more tar but the reslut will be darker. Experiment first. It works a treat and is used extensively in Swedish archipelago for small dinghies and teak decks,
