Can I use BNC connector on VHF radio

The cable from my VHF radio to the antenna on the mast has a connector at the top of the mast support in the cabin to allow the mast to be un-stepped. The existing connector is corroded and all I can get locally is a BNC/BNC connector. When I look at the diameter of the pin on the BNC compared to the more chunky PL259 there is a considerable difference in diameter. Have had a look on the net and I have seen that some folk have quoted 100 W for the BNC. My concern is the current carrying capacity of the BNC connector as I have no idea what the output RF voltage will be.
 
I have BNC connectors in my VHF antenna lead and they don't cause any issues

Your VHF will be 25W max transmit so well within the capacity of BNC. Just compare the size of the BNC pin with the diameter of the conductor in your antenna cable
 
Thanks to all for replying to my post. Just opened the BNC connector kit with all the wee bits. Its 50 years since I made up a BNC connector and I had forgotten how bloody fiddly they were and you have to solder the pin and socket. Not sure if my 75 year old eyes and shaky hands are up to it. (Wonder If I can use a choc block :)
 
Sshhhh. Don't tell anyone..... I have used a chocolate block hidden in the Loo for 30 years. The feeder to the radio was trimmed inch by inch checking with SWR meter to find the null point the radio was fooled and it still has more than adequate range with excellent SWR.
Disconnecting to lift the mast is a doddle..
