I've brought the plastic inner frames from my Rutgerson Portlights home to strip the Hammerite I sprayed over the corroding chrome ...
As I'm going to be spray painting, I also brought home two of the roller blinds from the roof hatches. They are spring loaded, no lock mechanism (they attach onto a hook), contained in a metal tube, which has signs of corrosion. The end-caps of the tube are held on with small screws.

Can I dismantle them without bits flying everywhere?

If you do, please include details. Based on my experience you need 3 hands and the patience of a minor Saint.

Well it didn't work for me.

Picture below, anyone recognise the make?

On the basis that man can dismantle nearly anything I would say go ahead.

It can't be worse than a Johnson 4hp on which some fool takes the big bolt out of the top cover.....

Of course bits will fly everywhere! Why did you ask? My only advice would be to do the biz inside a large plastic bag to catch the bits and so you can see where they should go on reassembly. Reassemble inside the bag too, you know it will take a couple of goes...

Just to prove my credentials, I once reassembled a Johnson starter assembly on a sandy beach! Been a fan of yoga ever since, though I invented my own mantras at the time.

That's the one. Someone gave me one they had undone that bolt on. Easy job I thought.......

Once saw a maintenance manual that said "undo the eight bolts, lift off the cover and catch the springs ...." This was for a Triumph Tina motor scooter belonging to a young lady: after reading that I changed my mind about volunteering to help her by fixing the clutch.
