This last couple of weeks has seen an influx of new Forumites which I am absolutely delighted with. I know other old stagers feel the same way too.
The fact is that YBW.com have been around since the 1990s; At one stage closing down, revamping and coming back on line in the format you see today. The Thames Forum is a newcomer relatively speaking and at every opportunity we have encouraged other boaters to join.
Can I ask what prompted you 'Newbies' to join and also ask that you in turn encourage others to join too. We need your input, yes! even with some of the wild and aggressive statements some are making. In my view it's all grist for the mill and makes the Forum that much more interesting.

I found it "googling" when I was researching cruising upriver. Couldn't believe I'd fallen into a gold mine of really useful info - both about the Thames and Mobo's in general.

Hubby & I regulary check it out for advice. Have also passed it on to other Thames boaters.

I’m here as I’m looking at giving up the land lubber life and becoming a live aboard. To that end I have been scouring the net for information and came across the YBW site. Had a quick browse of the forum and there within 2 pages I think, was an answer to a question I had been looking for. Lots of people here all with different stories, outlooks and boats seems like the ideal place to me to get the help I know I’m gonna need when I finally make the jump.

What sort of boat are you going to live on? if its a Narrowboat? err... perhaps best not to mention it too loudly on the Thames forum /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif but there folk here who can help I'm sure

No not a narrowboat, originally I was going to be looking for a MOBO but the way fuel seems to be sky rocketing it would appear that the only way to go is a motor sailor. Not much experience of this but will be getting myself away on some courses first, (does seem like a lot of ropes though /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) While I can’t imagine that I will be going far to start with, as soon as I’m ready I would like to be able to poodle round the country a bit then make my way down to the med for a while.

Motor Sailers always seem so pretty to me, certainly I love the looks of the Fishers and there's a Dutch one who's name escapes me that actually motors along at 10 knots. However I think the all act like pigs when under sail. Slow cumbersome and awkward. That said, for long distance cruising where time is not of the essence then this is the way to go.
