Can anyone recommend

PS the Aluminium extendables just pull apart.

They do, and they kink in the middle or dislocate their joint if they get hit from the side while extended. That’s why I replaced mine with a sturdy decorator’s extension pole [ https://www.screwfix.com/p/harris-trade-extension-pole-medium-1400-2400mm/5679x ]. It’s light (0.83kg apparently) and long (4-8 ft) but far, far sturdier. And locks in position at various lengths. The inner pole is the same 25mm diameter as the extendable boathooks, so you just drill out the pop rivet holding the head on to each, and put your selected boathook head onto the pole with some glue and a rivet (self-tapping screw would do).

Thanks for the thread , I had a Moorfast and I quite liked it. I'm on a Marina berth so didn't use it a lot, but the odd times I was on a mooring buoy with just a ring and no line, it was a great way to get the mooring line through the ring without launching the dingy.
Anyway its now surplus to requirements so if anyone wants one Ive just listed on ebay and put the link on the buying/selling forum

Years ago, on my first visit to Hong Kong, I enjoyed an RHKYC evening race aboard a friend's Impala, and was hugely impressed when Ah Ming held up the buoy rope whilst standing in his sampan. I still think that is the very best possible system.

Yes, I am trying to get the undergardener's son to do it, but he is a bit stroppy. Not keen on waiting in the cold until we come in. :o

You really can't get the help nowadays.
