Those 2 places are diagonal opposite sides of island. At the pollensa side, hotel Formentor is the best. It's a couple of miles from pollensa town, eastwards along the peninsular, but top hotel and nice private beach

Me and the missus booked a fantastic villa equi-distance between Puerto Pollensa and Pollensa town in June this year for £300 each including scheduled flights and hire car. Whole holiday was booked thru LastMinute.com and they used Real Spain as the operator........highly recommended. Villa slept four but they did not charge for under occupancy. Eating out is in-expensive and wine is "cheap as chips" !!!!!

There is a small and unpretentious hotel at the base of the Port Authority mole in P. D'A. opposite the Marina. It's called the Brismar and used to be my parents in laws favourite spot. Family run, homely etc. This means it could be full of OAPs or else perhaps quite nice.

Try the Villa Italia in Puerto Andratx. Best views of the harbour.
Quite traditional in style and the pool area isn't great but the views and the food more than make up for it IMHO.
Have stayed twice, once in a standard room and once in a suite. Lots of Mallorquin furniture everywhere.

If you want "modern" there is a newish place (can't remember the name) but it's not by the sea and looks a bit "corporate" - but the pool area is enormous.

In P Pollensa, my parents swear by the Illa D'Or - haven't stayed myself but they go every year.

Hotel Formentor is where we're going next year - expensive but we snooped around there in the summer and it looks well worth a visit - I love the gardens and the attentive staff.

Several people recommended the Residencia in Deia. We drove to look and were really disappointed by the noise - there was a building site in the village and dumper trucks just drowned out the peace and quiet. And it's a bit too famous and often full of celebs. And not close to the sea.

Hope this helps.

Matthew
