We were in Poros (Saronic Gulf) on Monday evening when a British crewed boat asked to come alongside. We of course agreed. Now they were on a "regatta" called "The Blue Race" which seems to consist of a series of fun races in around 30 charter boats (only a few companies allow this) around the islands of the Saronic & Argolic gulfs while the weather (& the water) is still warm. They had a flag flying from their stbd spreader which looked exactly like a whit ensign except that it was grey where the white should have been and black where you would expect red (Union Flag in upper canton as normal). No other boat had these colours and it slipped my mind to ask them about it before we pushed off at dawn to return to Athens.

Any ideas?

go west young man

Sounds suspiciously like a washed Cornish flag turned into an Ensign

Don't think so, as the Cornish National Flag is the cross of St Piran which is a WHITE cross on a BLACK field. The white colour of the cross represents the colour of tin, and St Piran is the patron saint of tinners
