can anyone explain to me please.

Tain't that simple.

Volvo KAD300..285HP - see?

My engines are Volvo V6 Vortec, any clue? No? OK - 205HP. Any clearer?

Or how about KAD43...235HP

It seems to me the closest manufacturers get to telling you the HP is when you buy an outboard.

Suzuki 100. Go on have a guess! Ding - 10 points for 100HP
Merc 100...go on, you know what it is really
Yamaha 300 V6....?
Evinrude 55...?
Crescent 45...?
Johnson 90...?

Get the picture yet? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not sure if you can do that easily, as they all seem to have various ways of naming them...

Mine are DD 6/71 TI LP
DD= Detroit Diesel
6 = Straight Six
71 = Series
T = Turbocharger
I = Intercooler
LP = Low Profile (Ie the engines are inclined approx 30 degrees to reduce height)

Now there is no-way to tell you the power the unit is based upon the above, unless you know the injector size, the turbo charger spec, and fuel pump spec, as these were delivered with power from approx 220 hp and up to 485.

Sorry !!

I have 2 AD31's which are 130HP each, so obviously you reverse the 3 and the 1 and add a 0 which gives 130HP!!

With AD41's you quite obviously drop the 1 divide by 2 and multiply by 100 to get 200hp, you see easy!

Hmm, who knows, but I agree it would be nice if there was some logic!

Seeing as how most of what you do is based on Volvo power TRY this for starters.

Lets face it, a D3 tag don't tell you much! Particularly as it has 5 cylinders! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

T= Turbo and K= Kompressor, which in fact is supercharging - Funny old German term really. A lot of Mercs (that's a car!!)have that on the back badge!!

No, sorry. It's a bloke thing. Pick your manufacturer, and keep the spec sheets/brochure in the downstairs bog. Eventually after enough time spent hiding from the family and getting some peace and quiet and quality time on your own, you come to know the spec sheets backwards.

Nope!
Trying to explain anything remotely technical to a woman is usually a waste of time - it's in the genes you know /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif - and I don't have the time to waste on the off chance you might be the exception to the norm. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Suzuki 100

Yamaha 300 V6....?
Evinrude 55...?
Crescent 45...?
Johnson 90...?

Ahhh...but have you strapped any of these to a dyno and found what they really produce - you might be unpleasantly surprised to the tune of 15 horses!

well thanks for that guys , /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
the mud is a bit less think,
but think it mite be easy to stick to my present method,

ask boats top speed,

and whether it got big, middle , or small sized engines,

or

wait till I start helming it, thats a dead giveaway!!!!!!
