in a tent with my boys at the moment on Riverside next door to mercury yacht harbour listening to at least two othe tent occupants rip the verbal out of each other.. A domestic and a half all over who has the heater on.... Funny as f##k but quite sad that they're making proper fools of themselves... Another couple were giving it max earlier... Taking the boat out for the first time tomorrow, hope it's as memorable as the night's camping ;-) /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
 
Man, I do not envy you.

The worst possible way to live... in a tent. I mean, who thought that was a good idea....

Anyways.... sounds like its all happening.... I gave up tenting when I woke in the middle of the night to some noise.... stuck my head out of the flaps to see a bloody great black bear ambling through the camp... Tents are nothing more than that silver foil on the outside of a ferero Roche to the average Canadian bear...

And shagging in em... that sucks.

Oh.,, and all the condensation on the inside... and the cold clothes in the morning... and crapping outside... erghh!

blimey!!

we were sat in the conservatory last night and heard something but didnt think anything of it!!

ah well. one less chaved up car on the road!!! dont suppose it was a yellow saxo was it? the owner appears to use hamble lane / satchel lane as a time trial route!
 
Blimey - it's always peaceful and quiet down there!

Mind you, there's always a slight risk with campsites. One of my favourites, near Studland, is normally peaceful and quiet, and very informal - no wardens patrolling around, camp more or less where you like, and best of all: no caravans /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. However, this very occasionally leads to noisy nights, but you have to go with the flow.

James, it's white with a blue stripe... saw a red fast looking thing down there today though chugging out loads of smoke..

Steve, after fannying about getting the boat in the water before high tide (had to rig up some rope to effectively extend the length of the trailer arm in order to get the depth needed to raise the boat off the rails)... we took the boat out to the Harbour and then opened it up at the '1st' green post! ran like a dream, didn't miss a heartbeat and was up on the plane doing a fair rate of knots in no time... until...... the harbour police came up along side with the twirly lights doing that twirly light thing that tends to put a dampener on things.. he agreed I was a newby muppet and let me off making a point that there's another 9 green posts to go before I'm allowed to have some fun... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

A great weekend.. no... a fantastic weekend!! definitely got me hooked from day 1 and am so pleased that all the hard work to get the boat running on the drive has resulted in what seems to be a good fast reliable and safe (in the right hands /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif) boat to have some fun in...

p.s. a massive thanks to the guy who took time out from sanding down his canoe to help me launch the boat.. and an even bigger thankyou to the forum members who've given advice to get me this far /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

thanks Steve... the towing was great apart from the cover simply wasn't up to the job.. had to stop off behind the K2 restaurant in Hemel to nip over to B&Q to buy 4 x 5m straps.. the plastic buckles on the wrap around cover disintegrated when doing 50mph :-(

It's been one big learning curve and I'm sure there'll be plenty more learnings to come.. I'm reading up like a nutter but it's only when you come to try things out that surprises happen.

finger's crossed on the job front, pm me your particulars if you're SC cleared and working in IT Service and/or Project Management.. I may be able to help.

Gary, sorry only asked as I was at Mercury on Saturday and saw a red sportsboat launching and seemed to have trouble selecting gears, but finally got off and then blatted around mercury at around 20knots causing loads of wash... that's when you want to see the HM! Wouldn't have told this story if it had been you!!

HM are pretty hot on speeding, but as they should be as the Hamble River is like the M25...! But its all a steep learning curve. Just do take care on Hamble Spit, I have seen a few novices take out there skegs at high speed when cutting across the spit when its covered, but not at high water....

Once you are hooked it takes over your life, but a good hobbie to have, just expensive!

many many thanks on the job front.....you dont know how much it was appreciated. alass im in the haulage trade with 30+yrs experience. glad mercury came upto your expectations. sugest you check with southampton port next visit and escort the cruise ships out into the solent on a saturday evening.. great sight.. dont get in the way!! any pics of the weekends fun in the sun?? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
