Anyone done it? We are thinking of trying this for Friday (Firework Night). Can't get a hotel or B&B for love nor money...

What is the closest Marina so we can walk with the tent?

Cheers

Most of the Cowes marinas only accept bookings for the full 9 days of Cowes Week (E Cowes is £62/metre) and are full.

Moving anywhere ashore within 2 or 3 miles of Cowes/E Cowes after about 6pm on firework night is a nightmare - it's not a lot better on the water.

High water is about 5 o'clock Friday. I would say head up to Newport if you can take the ground, leave the boat there and get a bus to Cowes at about 6pm and head for the Parade. If you are lucky you will probably be able to get back to Newport by about midnight.

Heh, that's encouraging...I spoke to a couple of marinas who said try on the day...given we are 24ft there might be a chance. Also, Island Harbour was suggested so I am thinking about that then a taxi to the camp site, spoke to the camp site guy who said good view from them...

Lastly, the weather has a bearing on things, for me it would be super to watch from the boat, although my wife has poo pooed it saying that many boats in the dark is a no no for her (5.5 months pregnant so she has a fair point) and who knows what the weather is going to do!

Gah, this now seems like a nightmare..

Waverly Park camping/caravan site is next to the E. Cowes Esplanade; ideal for watching the fireworks and about 5 mins walk from the floating bridge (say 20 mins walk from E Cowes marina. Full facilities, swimming pool etc. Nearest moorings are the Cowes Harbour Commission pontoons by the "Union Jack" hangar. Availability: no idea.

Spoken to the Harbour Commission who are saying call Friday, they'll do their best to sort us an over night. I'm tempted to take a punt and get there Thursday and get the tent up on the chance we'll get something somewhere...a lot of peeps leave apparenlty Friday...

Fair risk?

I have seen tents in the car park at Folly.

I have also travelled up to the folly after the fireworks and been able to find a spot on the inside of the pontoon.

I have also anchored in the river opposite island harbour (outside the main channel) but you need to be able to take the bottom.

I have also anchored at the rivermouth inside the harbour wall on the east side - again you need to be able to take the ground.

A bit of a different tack.....How about Beauliue river? Anchored there one firworks night. Good view, if a bit distant. But no crowds!!!!

Probably because you have to pay to anchor there
