Any chance its been assembled cross threaded....... looks like that could easily be done

Hot water round the joint all I can suggest try not to get the cannister too hot ..... it is empty I hope.

Some release oil and a couple of oil filter strap wrenches ????

will the burner unscrew .... does it help?

Only on the joint between the two halves of the outer shell.

But is there a problem with oil on lpg joints. ( everyone knows not to use it on oxygen )

Unless the redesign of these over the last half century is more than aesthetic, the screw thread simply hold the burner assembly onto the outer case. The canister is pierced by a tube with an o-ring seal as the burner is screwed into place. As such any oil used shouldn't reach the seal area, but if used I'd advise a thorough degreasing before reusing it. Actually, sluicing with boiling water from the kettle is more likely to be effective. The cylinder holder is aluminium and the thread will have corroded a little, tightening the joint. Heat may allow it to move and water is as good as anything else at washing out the corrosion products.

The one in the OP's picture is I am sure the new type where the two parts of the outer container come unscrewed. The joint is just above the ridge you can see.

I assume the OP's stove is the same type as he shows in the picture. No point in posting a picture of a different type.

Now looking at in full screen i suspect they are now plastic. If so release oil not appropriate
