Hi
As anyone brought camping gas refill adaptor ? You use to be able to buy a set , one end to fit the camping gas 3kg bottle , the type most of us have on our boats the other end comes with a set of different Adaptor to fit different bottles to fill from .
there a few different type on EBay and Amzon but I not sure which will do the job , and I only got one chance of ordering the right once , as someone will be bring them out to me .
anyone brought theses set and can point me to the right once please .

I don't know which versions are available to you, but here in the states I'm using the set from FlameKing. It's available from Amazon here.

It is a stand for the donor tank and fill fitting. I have a propane outboard so the systems gets lots of use and works great.

You will need the Camping Gaz adapter valve on this page

http://www.whayward.com/Results.cfm?category=23&secondary=25

and the adaper(s) to fit the donor cylinder(s)

Plus a high pressure hose with end fittings to suit the above eg this one if both adapters have M20 outlets

Make sure you never fill your cylinders more than 80% of full

If you fill one completely and it becomes warmed and bursts due to expansion of the liquefied gas you will have a possibly life threatening situation.

I understand that Campingaz is a propane/butane mixture. I can't see that home filling could reproduce this so presumably butane should be used, with lower vapour pressure. The connected appliance might not burn so well.

Is there any reliable way to ascertain when 80% capacity has been achieved?

Not sure about "80%", but I filled CampingGaz bottles from a rather wide variety of sources, considering a bottle full (hence stopping the process) when it achieved neutral buoyancy in water, salt or fresh does not make too much difference. Tanks have been left exposed to equatorial sun so I suppose it's a prudential rule, especially when no balance is available.
Oddily (or maybe not?), all the full donor tanks I tried (Africa,,South Am, part of Carib) were buoyancy neutral -I tested them, it might be a safety feature?

The tank being filled, still partially floating: when the upper edge gets to water level then one stops.

Pretty certain that the percentage of Propane was pretty small. I've never had problems with cylinders filled directly from auto-gas (don't know if that also has some Propane). However, all refills I've had in Greece seem to work well. Of course I'm certain that they've always been filled with the correct mixture. Vic knows well how fastidious the Greeks are in observing all regulations and instructions and that his previous refills must all have had the correct mix. :D:D

I think he'll risk not getting a specific propane/butane mix.

The main constituent of Autogas is propane but proportions of butane and propane vary from country to country and with the seasons.

What prompted me in filling my own bottle is not so much the cost of a refill , unlike back home I not paid more the 12 euros for a refill , it's more I fed up given good bottles and ending given rusty ones back , then having to repaint them before being able to get them exchanged .
What actually is inside them is anybody guess , butane,Propane or a mix of both .

I ask a shop the other week about a refill , he made a call and said to bring the bottle in twenty mins , twenty mins later a guy turned up and led me to a car parked, inside where two large bottle of gas , sticking mine on the floor and hanging one of his out of the boot which he used to fill mine for a few five mins , how much gas I got or what gas as I said anyone guess.

There was no weighting involved , so I guess there no reason why I can't wait till all my four bottles are empty and buy one big bottle and fill my own .

Surely just Butane will work fine? , and if I got a set of weighting scales and weight a full bottle then refilling at the same weight or a little less , I can't see where I be far off .

Any other advise guys .

No other advice whatsoever Vic. I got my gas setup from David Stopard (MES) in Ocean Quay, Southampton as he's a friend. I think the adaptors came from Will Hayward. I have a central manifold with switchover between bottles and a twin feed from the 2 bottles in the locker. At each bottle there are 2 connectors to fit camping gaz or Calor with a separate screw on/off valve. All feeds through a solenoid controlled from the Nereus alarm by the cooker.
Gas bottle refills typically cost around 8 - 10 euros in the Lefkas area but finished weight definitely varies and I'm pretty sure the composition does too!

butane is ok as long as it isnt too cold to form gas from the LPG

Filling 6kg Calor with one of these

at an autogas pump is cheaper and less faff than decanting to Camping Gaz. Been doing it for 15 years for boats and motorhomes without a problem. 12 l into a 6 kg bottle gives 20% expansion space, as stamped on the adapter.

Are they one size fits all or do you need a selection for different countries?
