Re: Roll of Honour...

I wish we could come along, this thread is making me quite nostalgic. We lived in Suffolk and kept our boat at West Mersea before we moved to US in 03. I worked on the Science Park in Cambridge. Hope to return at some point.

Please accept the virtual presence of Molly and I and our order for 2 pints of IPA and a nice pie and chips.

Cheers

Neil

Elastomeric Cheques'R'Us /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I would have thought Beancounter would set up a paypal account for this jolly!!

Any of you East Coasters sail from West Mersea?

Re: Roll of Honour...

Quite a few do Kioni..... and many of us, me included, are regular visitors....

Had the pleasure of sailing round there just recently in the fine company of one Mr and Mrs Beancounter /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Beautiful place......

Re: Roll of Honour...

We'll ensure you enjoy the virtual pie'n'chips using the new Sense-o-rama software to waft the smell of vinegar and gravy towards you...

Sadly, we'll have to deal with your IPA ourselves (hic!)

Tomorrow night...

...the George & Dragon have been duly alerted to the impending arrival of a posse of boaty types. Warning notices will be published to allow innocent bystanders time to evacuate...

Re: Roll of Honour...

I wish you all the virtual best! Have one or two for Molly and I /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We put an offer in on the boat we want yesterday...

Re: Roll of Honour...

It was! Today! Well, it wasn't the first offer as we haggled a bit but we ended up not far from it.

It's all very exciting! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Another reason to have a pint!! I had a (very cold) Nookie Broon over here as a consolation.

Cheers

Neil

Thanks all..

..it was an enjoyable evening - great to meet the faces behind the avatars.

Hopefully we'll soon see each other on the water.

cheers

Look forward to bumping into forumites

Not literally I hope - don't want to start any "why can't mobos watch where they're going blah...blah" type of post do we? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Virtual drinking

"how many pints did we virtually drink, SWMBO and I? "

Not that many - there was a nasty outbreak of sobriety. You're welcome to a virtual share in my Speckled Hen, and I'm assured your virtual cod'n'chips were extremely tasty... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Virtual drinking

Coo, I hope it's not catching! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

We do have a social weekend coming up, out with neighbours tonight, ex-work colleagues on Sunday, more on Mon/Tues. House is sold, we move out end of next week, plan to start work on the boat early April then move onboard in May if poss.

Will let you know how it unfolds. Plan to come back to Mersea with boat at some point in future so hope we can meet up eventually.

Cheers

Neil

Re: Virtual drinking

good to put names to faces on thurs even if we went to the wrong Village first

A very nice pint of Adnams friday evening, Saturday doin boat jobs ( too friggin cold to sail ) great first season sail today logged 28 mls singlehanded ( eyes watering with the cold N/E wind). back for a pint + steak sandwich /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Virtual drinking

Our "boaty jobs" this weekend amount to building a big pile of stuff in one corner of the bedroom of everything we will take with us on the boat.

Gave the kids 1 (one) folding plastic crate each and said "put your favourite toys in there and no more" and, bless them, after 6 hours it was only about 2 inches deep! Seems SWMBO has said they'll get new stuff on the way so they've gone very conservative /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Amazing, having reached this point we now understand what many other long term sailing people have realised - 95% of the stuff you accumulate is completely unnecessary. It's a very liberating feeling. I think we'll end up with very little to take and just make it up as we go along.

Had another Nookie Broon last night but, sadly, no Adnams or IPA within about 3000 miles - and I can't find a decent pie and chips anywhere /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Cheers

Neil
