Our new (old) boat has the above engine fitted.
I can't find any receipts relating to any servicing done so I assume the cambelt will need to be changed to be safe.
Can "any" mechanic do this with the engine being marinised? or, is it a marine engineer job only?

I'm not a mechanic but it is recommended to change the cam belt on any engine if you don't know when it was last done.

however I have changed belts in cars and it's a matter of lining up the marks, hopefully it's similar marinised.

I'm hoping so too! Got a nasty feeling it could be an engine out job though due to lack of room. I can't find anything out about that engine on line so will call the original installer tomorrow as there's a glimmer of hope that it may not have a belt.

If anyone is stuck I know an excellent mechanic who specialises in cam belts, he's an experienced mobo and sailing boat owner too, based West Sussex.

PM me if you need to contact him; nothing in it for me, so 'no connection' !

If this is the 2.5 engine then it isn't a Ford design it is a Mazda WLC, this is chain driven cam I think. If it is the 2.4 then it is the Puma Duratorq ZSD-424 engine then it deffo has a belt.

Thanks Seajet, will certainly bear that in mind. It may be cost prohibitive with him being so far away but a call won't hurt

its a bread and butter job for a mechanic, any mobile mechanic would be happy to do the job, and as for it being a tight fit you looked under the bonnet of modern cars.!:D

There's no way of getting to the cambelt on my car. Trouble is, that means the only way of changing it is to, quite literally, remove the front of the car!
That's why the official garage charges over £1000.00 to change it  Luckily I have a friend who is VAG trained who does it a lot cheaper for me!

Here's hoping! it's definitely listed as Ford but of course it could be a rebadged Mazda unit

Fingers crossed for a chain ;)

Indeed!

Not sure if this is any help at all

.

That is helpful, thank you. It certainly seems to be the normally aspirated version of mine and it does mention a Vee belt.
I'll call Lancing marine today and see what they advise (they supplied my engine too)

There's a few pictures of mine here when the original was swapped out, it is a very tight fit!

It's a FSD DI 2.5 (like mine)

Here's the cambelt changing leaflet.

Fabulous, thanks tradewinds.

Just spoke to Lancing marine (very helpful people) it does indeed have a cambelt.
It's a marinised Ford Transit engine from around 1998-1999 era and slightly disappointingly only develops around 100bhp which is some way short of the sellers claimed 150.
Still, I imagine that a large, under stressed unit like that should last a few Years.

I think the big issue will be access to it, I've never done a car cambelt so i'm not going to attempt this, so now need to get some quotes

Another update, for the benefit of anyone else searching on this topic.

I contacted Mike at Lancing, the engine is indeed belt driven and a standard Transit 2.5 belt will fit.
The engine develops 140 bhp at 4000 rpm running 12 psi boost pressure. Servicing is as per a Transit van but with ensuring impeller and all other rubber bits are in good nick as well as ensuring the turbo and charge cooler are clean.
