Hope somebody can enlighten me?

After reading through the manual on my engine it seems i may be able to connect a calorifier to it?

the engine is a vp 5.7 gsi but only raw water cooled, i thought it had to be fresh and raw water cooled to be able to have the calorifier.... any advice muchly appreciated.

I have just been through the same process with my 5.0 Mercruiser. I spoke to lots of experts who told me it either couldnt be done or if it was done the water wouldnt heat because the engine doesnt run hot enough.

They were all wrong, after advice from the forum I did the job myself in under an hour (easy DIY). I realise you have a VP, but the engines are very similar. I took the feed from the thermostat housing (theres a blank plug next to the thermostat) and the return went straight back into the hose using a brass fitting, some engines have a return plug on the water pump.

Lancing marine supplied all the bits needed, including heater (rather than radiator) hose to minimise heat loss. The calorifier came from My Boat.

I have just returned from a week on the Thames, and the system worked well. Hot water available after about 30mins running at tickover and stayed hot over night.

Yep my VP engines are hooked up to the calorifier and produce a tank of boiling hot water after about 15 minutes running. They are raw water. I replaced the hoses when they perished in under an hour.

If it was the one Alf linked to, I think it was 'You Boat'...

Looks a bargain.

Yep thats the one, but that one was out of stock. They did me the more expensive model at the lower price, good company quick delivery.

Calorifier £175, Hose and hardwear £95, keeping wifey happy, priceless :D

A few photos showing the installation.

Excellent - looks as though you've made a tidy job of it too. I'll give you a shout when I get around to changing mine!

thanks for the advice and pics, spoke to volspec and keyparts but they can't tell me where the hoses go so back to the drawing board i spose.

Solitaire11, sent you a pm (not about this thread though), did you get it or are you just ignoring me lol. Good to see you the other week, gather you all made it back without any drama's.
