Calorifier Pressure Relief Valve drain - any bright ideas?

Mine has just develop a problem and started dripping , has it never did it before I can't see why it should now. ,our plain to change it for a new one , nothing last for every.

If your never leaked before I would look for the problem rather then just find an exit for it

I have the same problem on my problematic Bavaria, replaced the leaking PRV late last year, but the new one has started passing since. went to the boat yesterday to replace with another PRV, but was missing a nipple so couldn't complete.
Read this thread last night, so this morning have purchased and fitted an 5 ltr accumulator.
Will report back on if it works

I have just replaced PRV and water pump as wasn't sure which was causing the water leakage. Whilst sorting it also connected a half inch hose to the PRV spigot and leading back to the bilge section which has the bilge pump.
Water leakage now solved so don't really need it but good to know its there for next time!

Can you explain that please?

That's designed to collect coolant when expelled from a rad cap, here we are talking about a lot bigger quantity, and higher pressure, as the water gets hot it expands, if its got nowhere to go it will get pushed out of relief valve, the whole idea of the expansion vessel is that it has a bladder inside that expands to take up the excess pressure and when it cools can retract without he need to expel any water out of relief valve.

thank you ....so I guess mine must be a lot smaller calorifier then as the quantity released is very small.

There will always be a small dribble, so I discharge it into a bottle in the bilge. If that fills up regularly - I find out what caused it. (The bottle overflows and runs into the bilge.

Just another thing to check 'regularly'

Ariam had such a bottle when we bought her. If I'd been installing the system from scratch I'd have had an expansion tank instead, but for the small amount of water that leaks out that way it hasn't seemed worth bothering.

What I did do was fit a float switch in the bottle, wired to a 12v flashing LED next to the companionway steps, so that we can empty the bottle before it overflows.

I have fitted a flexible hose tail to the PRV which drains into a 5l plastic container.I will look at fitting a expansion tank next winter.

Went back to the boat this afternoon, water in bilge ffs
Will have to plumb prv to deck drain i think, or just sell the f%#king thing.
