Hi Is it possible to adapt the calorifier setup to run a couple of radiators? If so what is required. Or is it possible to mod the eberspacher blown air heating to run rads? Thx
Not possible to modify blown air to heat radiators. Webasto and Eberspacher both do hydronic heating systems - we have one on our boat - but need a completely different system.
When you say calorifier I assume you mean the heat taken from the engine when it is running. You can get heat exchangers with a fan - same set up as a car. I installed one to warm the cockpit and de-mist when under way on a Broom 41 - used the engine that didn’t have the calorifier. No good when not under way of course.
Couple of towel rails fine off the flow and return to the calorifier. Only works with the engine of course. Add electric stick heater element for use with shore power.
If looking for a system to use engine heat when running and shore power when moored, you'd need a separate water circuit, much like the hot tap water.
Hence connected to the engine coolant and with a built-in, thermostat controlled, electric (220-240V) element at no more amps than your shorepower supply allows for.
A popular solution is to simply plug in a fan heater when and where needed. To overcome the annoying hysteresis in such devices (the temp range between on and off), a temperature controlled switch can be added.
Several versions available, easiest fit is directly at the socket but you may want one with an external probe if the socket is not located where you want to measure, https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/31CGTACyYdL._AC_.jpg
