Calor to Camping Gaz adaptor

My boat is equipped with Calor butane but am planning an extended N Atlantic islands trip (Portugal, Madeira, Cape Verdes, Azores). Really two questions:
1. Am I likely to have difficulty in getting Calor butane bottles refilled in these areas?
2. If I decide to use Camping Gaz, is there an adaptor available that will allow me to connect my Calor regulator to a Camping Gaz bottle?

Simply replace the Calor regulator with a Camping gaz one from any caravan or camping shop. Calor may or may not be available, and if it is, may come in different bottles with different connectors. We ran out of Calor on the West Coast of Ireland, and were offered either a complete new bottle and regulator or go to the main Calor depot 80miles away to get it filled - maybe!

[/ QUOTE ] There is indeed. It is a valve that screws into the Camping gas cylinder onto which the normal Calor butane regulator or hose will fit. That's the way to go if you have a fixed Calor regulator but if you screw the regulator directly on to the bottle then Oldharry's suggestion to obtain a camping gas regulator may be a better idea

The adaptor should be readily available from Calor outlets such as the Calormarineshop (but I cant find it just when I want it!) or from BES, http://www.bes.co.uk/ part no 8888. Last item in the "Ball needle and shut off valve" section under LPG and oil. Also last item in the regulator section

I notice the one on the BES website is different to what used to be there. Maybe there has been some supply problem which is why there is nothing that I can find on the Calor marine website but I am sure a direct approach will bring results. The old one turned the connection through 90°. Better IMHO

Regarding your first question this page from the Calor website sets out the situation regarding refilling Calor cylinders abroad and offers advice about gas supplies in continental counties. It also points out that propane is the predominant LPG in the Caribbean and N America
