we are leaving the UK for the Med around about the first weekend inMay, couls anyone tell us can we buy calor gas(in bluebottles) or can we only buy camping gaz in France, Will we need to change he regulators and will the cooker burn the different fuel without a problem.
 
You can only buy Camping Gaz in France and 99% of the Med ... Your calor gas bottles are virtually useless till you get to the Caribbean where they will fill them by using other bottles.

You need to change your fittings - it is fine to use a camping gaz regulator on top of the camping gaz bottle and then go into your gas system via an adaptor (Calor Gas sell them)... You will find the cooker runs a bit hot but not much else... I have used this system for around 20 years with various boats but others will tell you different solutions...

Just bite the bullet here in the UK and get rid of your Calor Gas system bottles and fit adaptor for Camping Gaz.. Quite expensive but available everywhere in supermarkets, hardware and chandlers shops in France and dirt cheap in Spain cos it is subsidised.

And in Greece too where it becomes "Greek Gas" and they spray the bottles a darker blue. In Slovenia they are bright orange.

UK Price last saturday for a 907 - £16.99

Greece last month €7.50 (€4.70 on some islands last summer)

Tip on changing to Gaz:

Go to your local tip and ask staff for a couple of empty Gaz bottles. Exchange these for full bottles at marina or hardware shop - saves paying silly price for new bottles.

When exchanging Gaz bottles in France you may find that supermarket prices are significantly less than marina prices.

Seconded - however expect to tip the guy a fiver, otherwise you are stealing from the council....

We left the UK three years ago and spent two years in the Med. We took the two calor bottles that were already on the boat plus a camping gaz bottle. We bought an adaptor from a calor shop that allows us to connect the camping gaz bottle in place of one of the calor bottles. We used camping gaz until it ran out and then switched to calor until we could exchange the camping gaz bottle. By only using calor when we had no gaz, our calor bottles lasted until we reached Malta (18 months). In Malta we were able to get calor and camping gaz bottles refilled easily and very cheaply.
We are now in the Caribbean and have been able to refill calor and camping gaz bottles here.
Depending on where you plan to go, it may be worth hanging on to those calor bottles.
 
There's a very good reason for not decanting gas yourself- a gas bottle must NEVER be filled completely full because expansion of the liquid gas could make them explode. They need a bit of head space for expansion and it's not easy to see how full they are.

A little more obvious is that it would be possible to put propane into butane bottles which is also dangerous as propane is stored at many times the pressure and needs stronger bottles.

If you have the space it's worth getting locally refillable bottles - the equivalent of Calor. Even if you throw them away at the end of a season you'll have saved money against the cost of Camping Gaz. Generally in Europe companies won't refill each others' bottles so if you're moving around you would need several different brands but if you plan to spend a season in one country it's worthwhile.
 
I know this is a bit of a late posting, but for interest I followed this advice on Thursday 3rd and found at a tip near us in W.Sussex it was " Nah we don't sell em, Health and safety, more than me job's worf Guv!". But 4 miles down the road in an E.Sussex tip got one for £2!! And they are £50 new! A result for a change.
