Calor 907 - how much do you pay?

Look at the various threads on refilling cylinders. Works for me.
A

And compare the price with the throw-a-way 200gm. capsules. Larceny...

I agree it's now totally out of order in cost in the last 10 years it has more than doubled in price. Calor gas is much cheaper I am told and as I am going to Ireland and Scotland this year and will be away for 3 months or so it's going to pay me to change I think. Anyone know what they pay for Calor?

Lb for Lb Calor is about half the price of Gaz yet the gas is the same and both cylinders are filled locally here at the same depot from the same tank.

We switched to Calor but kept a couple of Gaz cylinders and a Gaz to Calor adapter just in case because Calor doesn't exist outside the UK

£19.95 at Ocean Village.

Is there any cheaper alternative to this product?

For Propane; Flogas is about third of price of Calor (£19.96 for 11Kg, delivered, for our last bottle). I put it into an Ali tank and then take it to the boat. There was a thread about filling propane at the LPG point at local garage which may work out even cheaper.

That sounds like a plan Robin. Slightly confused regarding the Gaz to Calor adaptor though. Don't you need to swap regulators completely? I know the gas is the same, but is the pressure etc?

No the same regulator works for either but the connections are different so to use an adapter what I did was change the regulator to a Calor one that screws onto the Calor cylinder then has a flexible hose connection to the gas system (all inside the gas locker). This is cheaper than a wall mounting regulator with Calor connector only on the end of the flexible hose. Regulators cost under £10 for the cylinder fitting versions. Then there is an adapter available, also costs about £10, which screws into the top of any Gaz cylinder and includes a screw on/off valve and an outlet with the thread required (left handed) for the Calor connection. We saved the cost of these new bits on the first gas change!

We previously carried 4 x Gaz cylinders but switched to 2 x 4.5kg Calor ones with two of the old Gaz ones as spares, one of which was used just for the gas BBQ. In practice our two Calor cylinders lasted together around 42 days so covered our usual summer cruises to France but if not we had the Gaz backup which we could exchange if needs be in France.

I used to have a parsimonious friend who was a big camper - he used 907 bottles, but he used to refill them from a big 13kg (I think) Calor bottle. I have been considering doing the same but am a bit of a coward cos I dont know what he used for connection and whether they just sat side by side to attain equilibrium or one had to 'pour' from one to the other by inversion above ?

(Accepted it is totally unsafe for an amateur to play like this, but it isn't a crime, so please let's not have loads of stuff on that aspect of things.)

Has anybody here done this ? I lost contact with my friend after he moved, but with a name like Bill Smith, what chance of finding him again !! :-(
