Calm water radar

Re: Seagulls

I think you are the sort of person who prefers a bird in the hand to one in the air. I would not worry about you being sold a pup radar system because you are certainly not a gullable person ..... sorry, could not help that :-)

May I suggest that you catch a gull using bait and a noose on the roof of your boat and then tie it on to your radar scanner with a length of say 20 foot of cord - this way as the radar turns the gull will present itself as a moving target circling around the boat and hence simulate a real gull doing the same.

Please let usall know how it works out

I guess it sensed the noise and movement but it was uncanny how it stayed the same distance from our boat for many miles until it decided to land

Re: Seagulls

I would be very careful about relying on seeing lobby pots etc, you may sometimes, but not all the time. Mark one eyeball is best for lobby pots and a speed to take account of the visibilty. even with a good radar, I've been seeing posts lately of peeps blasting along at 30 konots in 150-200 meter fog, that is not acceptable, no matter how good your radar is, or how good you think you are, not you personally I mean.

Re: Seagulls

I agree.
The radar is just an aid in support of your eyes. However it is a very useful aid.
When I was caught in fog I cam down to 5 knots and had lookouts - all they could do was listen. However, knowing that the radar can help avoid me snagging pots is a good feeling :-)
