Callsigns

Wasn't suggesting that the callsign should be used for a 'radio check', heaven forbid, we hear enough of them blasting over genuine traffic. I was just suggesting that if a transmission had to be made it would be quicker. Have you ever heard some yachties trying to spell phonetically, George, eh Dog, Apple, er Foxtrot....

Re: Big Brother

You can also look up ships callsigns on the ITU web site - these are updated at least twice a year.

Url is http://www.itu.int/cgi-bin/htsh/mars/ship_search.sh

Also if you call a TR into an Irish CG Station you will always be asked for your call sign also when my son (under supervision) calls in to Holyhead MRSC they will also always ask for the c/sign.

Radio checking seems to be a solent problem, we rarely hear in the Irish Sea - the big problem just now is that Ch 16 is full of one side of Liverpool, Dublin , Belfast and Holhead CG calls...
