Yes I can do that. I think you’ve tried to include your email address behind a spoiler (very sensible) but for some reason it isn’t working - I can’t see your email address. Maybe you can have another go? You can;t send me a message via PM because as a new user this facility is not available to you yet. So try the spoiler thing again.

Hello just wired up my Simrad AI50 to a new Raymarine Element 7 and only seem to be getting some of the AIS targets shown on the new plotter. Hoping a software update on the AI50 will help. Would you be able to send me the firmware update please.

Hi, yes of course, though somehow I need your email address. You can‘t privately send me a PM until you’ve posted a number of times - five times a think. So it’s either that or post your email address here with suitably redacted bits to fool the spambots. There is also a clever method of hiding the address from spambots though I confess I don’t know how that is done.

I would add that my AI50 also refused to show leisure vessel AIS targets when passing data to Raymarine kit. Frustratingly the targets would appear fine on the Simrad AI50 but would not appear on the Raymarine. I gave up - and bought a different boat!

Thanks Rob! v1.94 now loaded and works great. One note: AI50 only accepted 1Gb SD card (uh… like it said in the directions!).

Slightly off-topic: My AI50 is working but every time it sends a position report it says in red in the corner "12V fault". Has anyone encountered this (and solved it)? I've got it on a bench power supply so its not the 12V system on the boat causing the issue.

Simrad says it's an issue that they can't service anymore given the age of the device.

Mine, for reasons I never understood, often showed a red dot in top right of the screen with a message "GPS error" but the unit functioned fine so I confess I ignored it for ten years.

The latest version of the software for this unit is v 1.9.4. If you have an earlier version and fancy a software upgrade then give me a shout - I have the upgrade files and the methodology.

Hi Rob, you seem to be an AI50 guru! I've bought a yacht with an AI50 for which I need to change the MMSI.

I sent the unit to Navico who have so far taken 5 months to change the MMSI. They returned the AI50 3 months ago with the MMSI unchanged, then they sent the wrong size SD card. Now they're not replying to any communication. Are you able to help me with how to change the MMSI?

I'm leaving on a 12 day passage in a three weeks so this is getting a little urgent!

sorry, I’m no guru, I simply have the software upgrade files which I found extremely difficult to acquire a few years ago and have since made said upgrade files available to those who request them via this forum. I regret I cannot assist with the MMSI issue. The AI50 is now pre-historic in AIS technology terms - I suspect those on the Simrad support desk now weren’t born when the unit was,sold! I can only suggest an early Christmas present to yourself…….

I too like old kit where it functions well, I'm not one for "bleeding edge", more like "dull second wave" is my technology strategy. My upgraded AIS solution last year was a Digital Yacht AIS which (whilst eye wateringly expensive) does have some very nice features like WIFI broadcast of Nav data (for display on tablet), an inbuilt VHF splitter (numpty level install) and FM radio connection (best FM ever received on a boat). So, get saving those beer tokens....

By the way - edit your first post and delete your email address - (a luddite's anti spam-bot strategy).
