Would very much appreciate any local knowledge re places to visit in the area and suggestions to enhance our Dickens and Medway on Fire festivals experience.

Nepenthe, with 2 and a dog on board,

arrived at Chatham Maritime from Penton Hook for a 2 week stay to take in the Dickens and Medway in Flames festivals (lucky to get booked in apparently).
Came down to Hermitage Community Moorings for a bumpy Sunday overnight

then had a very blustery trip peaking force 5 / 6 in the Medway approaches, arriving at MDL Chatham, thankfully, in a lull around 7pm Monday. Should have been earlier but any advantage of tide was lost by the strong winds...

The lack of sleep bouncing around in the city centre followed by a tense, challenging but invigorating, trip caused tempers to fray on tying up, we've all been there I suspect, but a glass or two of wine from Nepenthe's 'wine cellar' cleared the air.

Well done, and welcome to the Medway! Great pictures, too :)
I'm sure OG will be along shortly with lots of suggestions, but here's a couple of quick ones close to you if it helps:

Obviously, there is the dockyard on your doorstep: http://thedockyard.co.uk/?gclid=Cj0...LjbnRp4phABZJ2FwW7Jy_jlANXBOTT4H5EaArEd8P8HAQ

And, the copper rivet distillery: http://www.copperrivetdistillery.com/

Fort Amherst: http://www.fortamherst.com/

Rochester castle: http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/rochester-castle/

Upnor castle (also a pretty little place to wander around) http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/upnor-castle/

Rochester high street may be worth a wander, and is probably slightly more appealing than Chatham high street!
Also, a very good chandlers in the vicinity: https://www.piratescave.co.uk/

There are obviously thousands more delightful places nearby, just can't think of them at the moment!

Thanks for that Murv, Dutch and British naval vessels have arrived in basin 2 to escort the dutch 'fleet' of 100 boats up from Queenboro tomorrow.
MDL are expecting 40 boats in from holland

Wow! Should be quite a sight!
Sadly, I couldn't get the time off work tomorrow, but there are a few boats from RCC taking part.
Looking forward to some more pictures!

sorry for not replying to the thread in any detail but having some real problems finding space for all the alcohol we need to store on the new boat.
Seriously thinking of fitting a modified hold tank but sure we can get sufficent capacity in the lazerette.
Still cannot decide either , where to fit the cannon for when we visit the Thames later this year............

Thought I'd get a pic of a nice dutch sailing barge locking in, must remember to crop the pic as a couple of interlopers appeared....

The Sealine and the Birchwood are from RCC my chum is on the bow of the TUG "KENT".
If you have nothing better to do wander over to the end of the dock where they berth and have look a round, they are sadly prepared to spent vast amounts of time boring people to death with details about the tug,it is customary to drop an old washer or sixpence in their collecting tin before your escape
The tin will then produce an amusing noise, the electronics of which were cobbled up not a million miles from my workshop. OG
