Based on a comparison I am compiling about various chart plotting PC packages .....................

I cannot find reference to Anchor Alarm zone setting with Maxsea .... has anyone any experience of knowledge whether this is possible within Maxsea vers. 10

Interesting as many I ask haven't any idea !!

I haven't found or even thought of looking for an anchor alarm in MaxSea. Surely one wouldn't want to leave a PC running all the time one was anchored and use the alarm function on a GPS instead?

I have just done a word search on the MaxSea electroic manual for "anchor" and "alarm" and the is no mention of an anchor alarm function.

But with others you can ....

Maptech does ....

Seapro does ......

for example ..... a very useful facility if you are not using a plotter GPS to data into your PC .... such as my Hand-held ....

Often I have anchored near a drying beach for BBQ etc. - set the anchor, watched for a bit ... then had a nap waiting for boat to dry-out ... leaving the PC to watch over the anchor position ... without too much battery drain ... and a nice kip thanks !!!!

Anyway - the comparison is a table to see what is what is not available in each package ... not whether its advisable or not as each has there own requirement.

Re: But with others you can ....

Well, thank you very much for thanking me for looking into MaxSea and giving you an answer, won't bother next time if some additioanl comment sends you off in a rant.

Doesn't change my view that a GPS is suitable for anchor watch, not a PC, which apart from the power consumption, has an MTBF (to include operating system) at least 10^4 worse than the average GPS. But then there is nothing to beat a Mk1 eyeball for anchor watch, relying totally on electronics is poor seamanship IMHO.

Where is the rant ?????

You made a reasonable post - I replied with reason why I was looking at the question ... a) cause it was part of the comparison table and b) that I use the facility in other software I use.

There was no rant or slag off of your post or not even a hint of being against what you posted ...

Sorry but I haven't done anything wrong ... just justified my original question ...

Excuse me for explaining myself .............
