I have produced a simple time calculating app designed for the particular needs of yacht skippers. I am looking for enthusiasts to try it out in the marine environment, evaluating its usefulness at the chart table in working with tide tables, ETA's, journey time and Time of departure etc. (And then perhaps giving it a favorable review on the AppStore if you find it useful).

I can give any willing evaluator a personal promo code with which to download the app free from the App Store. iOS7 required because of 'speech' routines.

The app is also intended to be used easily by the visually impaired, with options for large clock numerals and speech, so an evaluation of those particular aspects would also be much appreciated, particularly by anyone who has visual disability or the onset of failing sight.

Anyone interested please contact me: Chris Medway dwsupport@virginmedia.com

Come on guys. There must be some Apple kit owners out there somewhere.
You surely can't all be good at working out time sums in your head.
I've had only one taker so far.
You get a FREE iPhone/iPad App out of it and a chance to rubbish it on the forum if you don't like it.
Because the interface is designed particularly with sight challenged 'yachties' in mind, I am particularly interested in comments from yachting enthusiasts who struggle to read text in 'normal' iPhone/iPad apps.

e mail sent. I wait with eager anticipation.

On its way, buddy. If you think the app would be useful to 'yachties' feel free to sing its praises.

I can't because blowing my own trumpet on forum would be frowned upon, quite rightly.

But anyone who really thinks it fills a niche is free to recommend it.

Regards Chris.

Drat. Would love to have a go, but Apple have decided in their inimitable wisdom that my venerable iPad mark 1 can no longer be upgraded, so stuck in the dark ages now, only able to reply to threads, etc.

My ipad 1 works perfectly with my raymarine nav kit. Even though raymarine says it wont work. I use it as my only plotter when below, the waterproof raymarine thing is out in the rain. So dont use it as a chopping board just yet.

If you said more clearly what it does and what unmet need it meets, you might have a greater response.

I just wanted to arouse interest from forum members and offer an opportunity to try it free, without overtly advertising my wares. It is bad manners and against the TOS rules to use the forums for advertising so I have just put out a request to yachting enthusiasts to trial the app and offer opinions or (if they like it), submit a favourable review on the App Store. They get the app free for their trouble, I get customer feedback and some idea of the usefulness of the app to the yachting community by personal anecdotes.

The App, called 'DogWatch', is very simply an adding and subtracting time calculator. That's all it does. Not very exciting admittedly, but the user interface is specifically designed for those with poor or failing eyesight, and includes speech' of the clocks and numerals. I have intended it to be used primarily by yachting enthusiasts, (who frequently need to add or subtract periods of time when working out ETA, TOD, tides, Secondary ports etc. (Time calculations that are, for most of us, just a little beyond mental arithmetic. Particularly when the answers may be beyond midnight the following or previous day). The display also has a night vision preservation mode, so that watch keepers can do a quick calculation at the chart table if necessary and then go back up to the cockpit, without suffering 'night blindness'. I would like to know it that works for them, from those who use it.

Got it, it's a simple calculator to add times together, I like it, sometimes my tired brain loses the ability to add hours, shillings and ounces together, more so when midnight occurs part way through the times used. This little app takes care of at least that part of brain fade.

Now if only I could remember how to weld a block of wood to a cows udder! Maybe I still need some more rest!

Downloaded it (thanks for the code chartnavagator) and have a had a play with it. At first I thought it was so simple that I could just do as I always did in my head, then I used it across some days and used specific hours and minutes and realised the usefulness. Its simple but effective and if nothing else, is a check on your rough calculations. From the small amount I have messed about with it, certainly worth having as another tool in the box, so to speak.

Thanks Ripster. A couple of comments have come back to me that are worth offering a 'heads up' on. The website address in the Info section is not operable as a URL by tapping on it. Hopefully I will fix that in Rev 1.1. You can still use the User manual on my website but you have to type it into Safari and go to 'DogWatch' once you are on my site. Also it is thought to be expensive for what it is. I agree and will review that issue.

Do please come back to me with comments. I hope to know how intuitive the user interface is for new users and what they found to be its most useful applications.
