MBY needs your help...

We are currently researching the River Thames, from the estuary to just beyond Chelsea, and would like any of your tips on mooring on-river, particularly on the stretch from Greenwich to Chelsea.

Aside from the main off-river marinas, do you know of any piers, jetties or moorings that welcome visitors either for a short stop or an overnight stay? Also, if you have any tips on the Thames you would like to pass on to your fellow readers, we would like to hear from you...

Happy days

PS Any tips on good pubs always welcome - not for publication of course, just for the MBY team to waste a Saturday afternoon...

I've done that trip quite a few times and at low tide there's very little , a friendly sailing club on the Embankment once let us use there pontoon to refuel, but that was it untill the short stay pontoon at putney . Not sure about high tide, i'm usually heading back to Twickers on that .

Calling Byron

I have done the trip up and down the Thames Estuary to the non tidal river umpteen times, but I am more interested in getting either up to the non tidal part or down to France, Holland or somewhere other than London, although we do love posing in St Kat's.

As you point out there are the known marinas, but with the exception of Chelsea and Cadogan pier I can't think of any that either offer overnight mooring or that I would want to stay on. A little further up is Chiswick pier where I believe overnight mooring is available. With the sides of the river drying out for much of the area you are looking at it is not really practical for motor boats.

PLA are probably your best source.

I have seen boats moor at The Gun pub directly opposite the Millenium Tent at high tide. Great pub but I've never been sober enough to see them leave.
