September the 5th 2009 is the tenth annual rowing race around Northey Island on the River Blackwater!

We have raised in excess of £130.000 for local and national charities!

This year we are hoping to top the £10k mark again for the event weekend, and are requesting fun loving water babies to join in!

I know many of you have attended over the years, but how about a YBW East Coast Forum team? Roger are you on the safety boat this year? Chris are you about? Gary, you out to play on this day? Dave & Lou?

Please get in touch!

I expect D3B will be up for it. He keeps going on about his 'pulling' shirt /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I may be there in Karouise not sure yet. I am skippering a Vic 34 in the Solent the following week and don't know if I have to be there on Sunday or Monday yet.

Was a great weekend last year as 'Row 4 a reason' coincided with Colin & Moira's departure for the Med in Tasman.

I remember it well! Well up until about 2000hrs, then it all goes a bit fuzzy!!!!

Tina said she will set up a 'justgiving' site for sponsership if ybw gets a team together!!!

Hey Tina even said she'd get a YBW Row4AReason cup or shield done for members to compete for!!! If there are a couple of teams entered!!

On the water, shields, wining, two pubs, a get together could it happen?????? YBW BBQ on the lock side????? The mind boggles!!!!

Just a thought!!

Al.

This year, I have managed to patch my fine, double skinned 10ft Dinghy, and will be trialling its rowing capabilities this very weekend.
I have new jumble sale rowlocks, and have decided to put the Honda 2.3 on for safety purposes. Also to take up the slack when I feel knackered.

I have avowed to be at this years event, as I have shamefully missed it for the last 2 years, because I hadn't got round to the necessary boatfixing, and of course, the exclusion of the oh-so-handy inflatables from the event.

We will tow it round with the mothership, which will be offered as corporate entertainment centre for Team ECF.

I'm in.

It's in the diary now.

Ok you lot, we need a second boat entry to make a Team ECF.

Hi Al, good to hear it's going ahead and we will do our best to get there again, afraid we are still without rowing boat so unable to enter, but if anyone needs crew I may be masochistic enough to volunteer.
I do have a small rigid tender that will be going up for sale soon, but there's no way I'm going to enter in that, I wouldn't stand a chance /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

EMERGENCY services personnel will be given the chance to compete against each other in a special anniversary event - as part of Row 4a Reason.

The popular annual charity rowing event, held in Heybridge Basin, is celebrating its tenth anniversary by adding two new events to raise even more money for the selected charities this year.

A 999 challenge event has been added and a charity challenge - along with the usual round the island row - to raise money for Essex Air Ambulance, Little Havens Children’s Hospice and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Organiser Tina Cottis said: “We have a new 999 emergency services challenge trophy up for grabs and we are challenging you to take part.

“Decorate your boat, wear team colours or fancy dress and show everyone who is the first emergency service.”

The challenge, open to the police, fire, rescue services, ambulance and the armed forces, is to enter a team of between two and six people - depending on the size of the boat - for a rowing race and to raise money for the charities with sponsorship.

The race will be held on Saturday September 5 at 1pm from the lock area of Heybridge Basin.

The new charity challenge trophy, to be awarded by Heybridge Parish Council, is another first and an opportunity for charities from across the county to enter teams against each other with half the sponsorship going back to that charity and the other half to the Row 4a Reason chosen charities.

Classes of boats competing in the original round the island row include canoes, kayaks, dinghies with singles, doubles and groups all welcome.

Entry for all races is £5 per person plus sponsorship and organisers can help with the sourcing of a boat.

Hi Al, how's that going to work ?
Obviously you know how far we would be driving, so bringing a boat from here could be a problem, but are they saying that boats may be available on the day, or is it likely to be a hire thing ?
I think a team could be put together that may well show the ex RN types how to row /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Due to the clash of dates with the Great river race our two Lower Thames RC Gigs wont be coming this year but we are sending a couple of the 18ft skiffs, great event.

Dont forget there is also the Manningtree Paddle & Oar festival on the 11th & 12th July and the LTRC Estuary challenge on the 23rd August, hope to see some of you there as well.

Well its all gone a bit Pete Tong.
Double skinned dinghy still has unresolved holes
Rowlocks don't fit properly
Honda outboard wont fit the transom without modification.

So I am no nearer completion than I was 3 months ago. B@gger
