Dear all,

Having met you all a few times, could you help us pls? At some point over the Bank Holiday, we are bringing our new purchase of "Haden" (42 ft Nelson) back from Christchurch. Ian and I somewhat nervous of new purchase and wondered whether anyone of you could or would, come out and meet us? It would be a great welcome "home" for Haden (she has no sails obviously and it is a huge change for us!) Being a bank holiday and all that, I think a few drinkies would be in order on arrival! Thanks Cindy

Hi ya,

Really looking forward to seeing the new weapon of choice.

Do you mean meet you outside Sparkes Marina, Chichester Harbour or at the Needles or a cruise back in company?

All of which are possible, but some of us may be X-channel or in Brighton as you could be too except that the boat is probly too new to you yet.

There used to be a Nelson 42 just inside of A pontoon hammerhead at Sparkes where I used to be and now Pipedream the Targa 37.

The hammerhead is now spoken for I believe in as much that Liberty and a new saily Sun Odessey 49 took the end spots.

The new Nelson42 will fit into most A pontoon berths as she's fairly narrow. The fingers outside are 12 metres and those inside are 10ish. As you will be mooring alongside and no need to use swim platform the length of finger is less important.

You can certainly berth anywhere along the wall after the fuelling point and this is will be the easiest for you should the wind be Westerly, you can just drive in, select neutral and use the wind to blow on to the wall berths. Good idea really as I'm sure you will be a bit nervous if you've not driven twin shafts before or recently.

Keep us posted and we'll look forward to helping you celebrate, we don't need 'mush' of an excuse at Sparkes! ;)

Two years ago I found myself at the Yarmouth Old Gaffers Rally in June - not on an old gaffer, but on a pal's Rallberg Hussy (we had wandered over from Lymington to ogle all these lovely boats).
And we were moored on the trots just behind a lovely Nelson called Haden - I was admiring her very wistfully, thinking that she really looked 'the business'.
Congratulations, you are now owned by a very fine vessel indeed.

ANY pontoon

Assistance available from a smaller boat in the corner of "F" pontoon available if required :)

...to take a rope will be welcome, thank you, years of a saily boat then all of a sudden all that grunt and obviously different handling may be troublesome!

Oh, and we can all stand back to watch Mrs G clip Roger Rat around the ear when we get there...

Yep, but it's much more controllable grunt, I doubt if you'll use more than tickover and even then you'll slip her in and out of gear. (the boat not the 'Fender bitch :D)

Ian, are getting tuition at handover or are you actually twin screw competent and just on a wind up?

Mrs. G... Don't worry, you'll soon get used to being the dregs of the solent and every saily boat treating you as an idiot, claiming water with their engines running in the middle of the solent. For wotsits sake, don't talk to them as you couldn't possibly understand the complications of sailing especially with 2 sails! ;)

Might sound weird, but it's true :( sad eh?

Haden

Mrs G here. No we are not winding you up, we would genuinely love to have a floatilla escort back to Northney. We have little experience of power, but we are learning together (should be good cause for a blazing row at some point!)

She is out of the water on the 24th, survey on the 27th, hoping to bring her back either 28th/29th/30th depending on strength of the inevitable howling gale!!

Wont see you before that as we are rushing about trying to get all our stuff off Sunbeat after Ian does MoD regatta next weekend and she goes off to the Hamble on the Monday. How do we manage to fill a boat with so much stuff????:confused:

Twin screws

I know I've forgotten how to ride me bike but I spent a year on a 150 footer in the south of France (a very long time ago) she was twin screw and a way lot heavier, I guess the principle is the same.

I'm stunned you could even suggest I would wind anybody up in here and to be honest a little upset and tearful.

Ian :)
