I am still struggling to find out what chain I need

I have a leroy somer windlass that was fitted from new on a Beneteau 323, it has both chain & rope gypsy's

There are no markings on the gypsy that I can find

How do I measure up what chain to buy?

Try Ancasta Marine, the Beneteau dealers. Or the Beneteau owners website, or Jimmy Green Marine as I originally suggested. Pretty sure it will be 8mm - buy a short length and try.

Bradney Chain www.bradneychain.com have a useful booklet on anchoring and chains and also may have the answer for you.

Is there ANY chain on board ? If so, try it.

Or borrow some from an adjacent similar sized boat.

8 mm seems reasonable.

It is not only the size of chain that you need. You also need the pattern. However, trial and error should show which pattern you need. Ideally take the gipsy with you to a chain supplier and let them choose the correct type.

Have taken instructions from Jimmy Green's & am now off to the boat with vernier guage & tape measure /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks
