Personally I would not recommend you to use the 'Outer Route' i.e. via the Long Sand Head. That adds 6nm on the passage: 8hrs 16 mins via Foulger's Gat and Little Sunk v 9hrs 38 mins via the 'Outer Route'. If you are going to make the decision on route whether to continue to Harwich or head for the Blackwater you will have put yourself as far as possible from the Blackwater. Making the decision would be a better place at the Little Sunk. If you headed for the Blackwater from the Long Sand Head compared from the Little Sunk, you would have added 10nm!
