Cala D'or crew

Hi Pete. Im a bit off the pace...! As Mat has said, there are restaurants on both sides, but the heaviest concentration is on the North side. We probably go 'North side' 2 or 3 times to every visit 'South'. There are basically 3 distinct locations in Cala d'Or marina, South side, North side, and the pontoons at the seaward end beyond the boatyard on the South side. We are on these pontoons and like the location as it is very peaceful with no holiday makers walking by. Some would say that its too quiet and a bit isolated from the action... it depends on your preferences.
The downside is that we are as far away as you can get from the North side concentration of restaurants. We have to allow at least 15 minutes strolling time. Usually more as we stop and chat to everyone. Cala d'Or is a very friendly place. Hope the photo helps with orientation. Do come to say hello if we are there in September.

Ive been practising in the UK with the drone and really enjoying flying it so far. Not lost it in the drink yet.... but did lose comms to it so experienced the automatic fly-home procedure! Very impressive. As Jeremy alludes, the aerial photo of Cala d'Or was taken from a helicopter. Not mine though, but one hired to photograph the boats that went out on the BCU cruise to Ibiza in June.

Incidentally, could a lazy person tender from South to North?
We have thought about it but not done it yet. Finding a spot to leave the tender wouldn't be easy, but not impossible. The 15/20 minute walk from where we are is not quite onerous enough to mess about with the tender. In fact its a rather nice stroll around the marina.

I did wonder about setting up a ferry service with the dinghy. 1 Euro per person. You could make a few quid! :)

We said exactly the same... Why isn't there some enterprising young local lad with a little boat charging us for lifts across the channel during his school holidays?

Presumably that's not allowed by the marina operators,or they want a cut of his money making it non viable

Thanks for everyone's help. We've booked an apartment in Cala D'Or overlooking the marina for 4 nights from the 23/9. If anyone fancies meeting up for a few beers that would be cool. We opted for evening flights from Birmingham (£100pp) so will only miss a couple of days from work, which will be a good practice run for when we get back on the water.

Thanks - looked at their website and it was advertised as a Boat Share! Perfect! Sadly, that was typo and it's a stock boat at £195k. A little pricey for me but you never know, I'll certainly look at it though.

Who do you guys use for car hire these days? I think NickH recommended ROIG but they are coming out at €200+ for 4 days (including CDW / Full to Full).

Why take the car hire CDW? Jyst but an annual policy for £35-40 and be done with it.

doyouspain.com have a Renault Clio size car through Auto Click, full/full hire and on airport at €37.92 for your dates. If you must have CDW then doyouspain do it for €9/day usually.

Yep, I've done that but the problem I've had at Palma is that they want to inspect the car when you return it and that can involve a hanging around. Not to mention the hassle at check-in. As it's a short rental I'd prefer an all inclusive deal as long as it's not a piss take price.

Do they? Never do at BCN, well ok they log mileage and gave a quick look but no more than 5 minutes.
I use dys every time I come to the boat and they are excellent, though obviously it's a bit dependant on the car company you use.

I use firefly almost exclusively and have never had any issues. Last car was a full spec Vauxhall Astra with 1200km and current car is a Peugeot 2008 with about 3000kms - bith with nav etc
