Cala D'Or at Easter [Drone Footage]

Wow, it certainly looks encouraging! Gives a 'pro' feel to it. More detail and contrast, if slightly yellowish (which must be the LUT). The trend in general seems to be towards yellow tinted vintage look.

I haven't yet touched the colour settings in Phantom at all, but will do in the future. I was aware of the 'shoot-flat-enhance-in-post' -approach but haven't really given it a proper try yet. Must look into LUTs in Final Cut Pro as well. Thanks for bringing this up!

In this case, I think it was personal preference - I like the warmer feel that the yellow tint gives but I appreciate it might be a bit too much.
There were loads of LUTs to choose from - this was the one I liked.

That is interesting. I hadn't noticed that that block of apartments was there until I saw the drone footage back. Do you know if any of them are holiday lets? Because they would be perfect for friends / family when they come to visit. I have a big family and they can't fit on the boat if they all come at the same time.
 
Although we dont rent ours out I believe some owners do. The development is El Puerto 2 so it may be worth googling that.
 
Great video, thanks for posting it, Not knowing much about these things do you fly it by sight or use the display on the controller?

We do our boating on the Thames and it would be handy sending it up ahead to see if there were any free moorings.

what height was the fottage taken from and can you pre set this?

You can pretty much do both from a wide variety of Drones from this leading manufacturer DJI. I fly an earlier model in both Mallorca and UK and this newest version the Mavic can be programmed for all manner of safety scenarios and limits. There popularity has drawn some very negative attention especially UK. There are constraints as to how close you can operate them close to the public and traffic. I would take some advice on operating one on the Thames but do try one they are very impressive.

Because it is so small it very soon goes out of sight so you fly it pretty much entirely by the display on (in my case) the iPad Mini attached to the controller. There is a map to tell you where it is and you see what it sees. Helps if you know what you are looking at so flying over areas you have been to before is good.

The display tells you how high you are but I think is relative to where you took off from. The first bit over the water was about 30m but then I went to about 50m (I think) for the land fly over. You have to balance up detail (low height but might hit a tree) with grand overview (height). Hard to get it right.

Firstly, sorry for the thread drift but I think some on here are interested in the Mavic's colour settings.

Since posting my last on this thread, I've had a good session with the drone and Premiere Pro CC LUTs.
I am no expert in this kind of thing but with this kind of thing, I usually persevere until I get what I like myself.

Essentially, I was disappointed with the "shooting flat" and reworking in "post production" concept.
It is very difficult to test it out.
Shooting in D-Log gives a foggy image that then HAS to be post processed so it is not fair to compare it with other results until it has been through a correction process.
Likewise, it wouldn't be fair to any other colour modes if you didn't give them similar (but different) attention.
Initially, I kept the colour settings to D-Log and just compared the style settings of -1 -3 -3 to style settings of 0 0 0 (i.e. two clips of exactly the same subject in the same sunlight).
These numbers relate to Contrast, Sharpness, and Saturation.
During post processing, I "edited in" a split the screen to show the results of each clip beside the other.
As expected, the results were different but by the time each had been post processed in its own way, they were much the same.
In fact, it was slightly easier to post process the 0 0 0 style.

On a separate occasion, I set the Style to 0 0 0 and changed the colour mode to one of three settings - D-Log, None, and D-Cinelike.
After post processing, the D-Log clip was definitely inferior (IMO) to None and D-Cinelike.
I just couldn't get the D-Log clip to look as good as the other two.
The D-Cinelike had more saturation than None before post processing but it was easy to add a LUT to them to get good results.

So, I've come "full circle" now and it seems that just leaving the default settings or just using the new DJI D-Cinelike colour works best for me.

And this morning, I came across this page (with an interesting video) which basically sums up my findings - except that he sets a -1 -1 -1 Style.

Useful thread drift. I haven't played with style settings, I noticed too much green maybe they will help.

The filters should land tomorrow, I can play over the long weekend and upload some comparisons.

Thanks for posting that - really interesting.
So, it I think I will just try a few sessions sticking to D-Cinelike - with style set to sharpness -1, contrast -1 and saturation -1
We are off to the boat in a couple of days for a few weeks.
It is a working trip but I will see if I can get some footage over water from the Mavic - and then see how well it post processes.

I today placed an order for a Mavic Pro, btw. Can't wait to get my hands on it either :). Will have to do a mexican shootout on the old phantom 3.

I'm pleased that I kept my old Phantom 3.
It is great for practising.
When you know that the Mavic is the main drone, you push yourself more when flying the old drone.
And then you will realise that the Mavic is much easier to fly.
Noticeably longer flying time - so much so that you now have to watch the remote controller's battery carefully.
Great bit of kit - you won't regret it.
