Cala D'Or at Easter [Drone Footage]

Following on as a sequel to the Cala D'Or at Christmas thread here is some drone footage I shot at Easter. The marina looks kind of strange because there are still no boats on the left side of the quay. Another 4 weeks before it is finished I am told.

This is a raw video with no sound but it is 1080HD and looks good at full screen.

Shot with my new DJI Mavic (which is a fantastic bit of kit, by the way). I fly over the marina, over Cala D'Or town, over Cala D'Or beach and end up over Cala Pou.

Anyone know how do I embed the video in the post like all the cool kids do?

Actually, it is often better to do what you did and just link to the full screen version.
For some reason this forum disables the maximise button on the clips.
 
Did you change the exposure/contrast on the Mavic.
This is the little wheel under your right index finger.
I'm having trouble deciding what contrast/exposure is best when I fly my Mavic.
On a bright day, the screen is difficult to see so setting the exposure can either screw up or make a clip look great.
I believe you can set a mode where the maximum information is captured from the sensor and adjust exposures etc in the post process when editing.
Lot to learn this year to get the best shots.

I am pretty new to the Mavic. I only got it a couple of weeks ago. I just have all the settings on "auto". I am just so pleased with how clear the footage is, I will have get on to the finer points of cinematography a bit later on!
 
Great video but why are their no boats on the left hand side coming in from the Sea, is the Marina being redeveloped ?

Yes,they dug up the whole quayside in October to refurbish it. They were supposed to be finished by now. They have the quayside paving finished but the shore power columns are not connected yet.

This is not so high quality. It was edited with the DJI app (hence the water mark in the corner) and it adds music. Pretty amateur by HenryF standards, it could do with improvement, but for free software on an iPad mini it is OK.

The problem that I've had with the old Phantom has been that colours in white boats tend to appear "washed out" in strong sunlight thus loosing detail.
I think the Mavic's contrast/exposure wheel might correct for this problem.
However, your clip is good in this respect so maybe the Mavic will be better than my old Phantom.
Good footage - I know Mondrago.

Yes, P - that part of Mallorca is rather built up.
Not quite San Pietro standard.
But you don't have to go far from Cala D'Or to get to some un-spoilt anchorages.

I couldn't find these locally so I ordered from USA, due next week. The set includes polarising filters that will help with glare on the water. The Cinema series ones can stay on camera, they allow gimbal to calibrate without moving.

But a low shutter speed allows too much light in on a bright day, so you buy ND filters to act like sunglasses for the camera.

I've spent that last couple of days playing with Mavic and trying to get the best video out of it.
After reading loads of stuff, the solution for me seems to be to set the Mavic's video colour settings to D-Log.
They also say that you should also set a contrast style of -1 -3 -3
This effectively sets the Mavic's video camera to save images with the most information that it can collect from the camera sensor.
The actual captured video image looks rubbish until you run it through a good post processor.
But if you do this, the final results are fantastic.
I believe the same thing can be done on all the DJI drones.

Here is an extract on capturing D-Log images from one of sites that I read:-
There's only one drone on the market that can capture uncompressed 4K footage, the $8,000 DJI Inspire 1 Raw—but actually a flat color profiles, like the Log profile that DJI includes in its drones gets close. The flat profile shows colors that aren't quite as saturated as they should be and video that is low in contrast. It's intended to give you the most flexibility to apply correction when editing footage in pro software like Adobe Premiere Pro CC or Final Cut Pro.

This is a video that explains the process when using Premiere Pro to post process the video.

An easier solution is to correct the "Flat Video" using preset LUTs (Colour Look Up Tables)

Actually, DJI are no longer including their Mavic LUTs on their website but I found them on the internet.
Probably not worth wasting time looking for the DJI Mavic LUTs - I thought they were rubbish - there are loads of other LUTs available that IMO produce better results.
For example, for the clips that I took this afternoon, I liked the SLOG3-SL-PROFILE with a bit of extra brightness.
Maybe the Mavic LUTs will work better for videos at sea.

I will definitely be using more of this technique as we go into the season.

Sorry, this is a bit of thread drift but this afternoon, I flew my Mavic with these settings and it was, indeed, easy to create superb results after post processing in Premiere Pro.

Interesting and clever stuff, but probably a level too high for me. I'd need to invest in a new laptop and cough up £20 monthly for Premier Pro. I'll see how the ND filters go first.

I bought a set of filters for my Phantom last year.
There were 3 in the set - I used the Polarising one a lot and got some good shots through the surface to underwater rocks.
But I couldn't get on with the ND filters - they seemed to make everything dull.
But then, I did have very high contrast results - white from boats being "washed out".
Lets hope you get better results with the filters - other people do.

I find this all very interesting. I recently invested to Final Cut Pro with the intention to look closer at color grading, but haven't gotten very far yet. I'm also trying to get a clearer picture (pun?) of differences in video quality between the Mavic and P4. Any change of a short before and after clips with and without the LUTs?

And thank you to PEJ for the video. I just passed the same area on a plane on the way back from Alicante and it does look fantastic!

Funny, I was playing with LUTs last night.
This isn't quite what you are looking for - it is an old clip (Phantom footage) not set to the D-Log profile.
However, it does show what you can do very quickly using LUTs.
I also added a bit of sharpening - but, essentially, this clip was done using Permiere Pro CC very quickly using one LUT (not one of the DJI LUTs) and a bit of sharpening.

I hope you find this technique as encouraging as I have.

Obviously (I hope) you will see the corrected image is on the right.

I'm now hoping to get better results this season by recording with the D-Log profile.
But Anders has got me thinking about filters as well.
As he pointed out, the Polar Pro Filter sets come with a range of 3 polarising filters.
Polar Pro Filters have an option for that set of 3 only - I might be tempted to get a set - the polarising filters worked so well last year on the Phantom.
