Hi. Does anyone know if there are still buoys in Cala di Volpe and whether they charge for them? Looking for a place to tie up for the winds this weekend. Thanks.

Last year there were only a few boys for very big yachts, they were not alway’s occupied , we anchored twice close to one, I’m not sure if they charge for using them. Why you don’t go to a marina? If its a price issue, la maddelena and cannigione where “ normal” price , pergaps Palau aswell.

Why you don’t go to a marina?
+1.
Based on the forecast, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else than in a marina on Sat night and Sun, anywhere around Bonifacio Strait.
If you are near Cala di Volpe, Marina di Portisco is within a stone's throw, and gives a better protection from Mistral than Porto Rotondo for (I think) less outrageous prices.

Thanks guys. Looks quite tasty this weekend so will hole up as you suggest. Have to say I am wholly unimpressed with the response capabilities of the two marinas I tried one of which was Portisco. I guess I will just have to get used to things post the Balearics which was extremely efficient by comparison. But early days!!

I'm afraid that is the attitude of the whole boating industry in that area. They exist solely to fleece boaters to the absolute maximum during the high season and for the rest of the year they can't be arsed. I have had quite a few bad experiences with marinas and yacht maintenance companies in that area over the years. If youre going in that direction, you will find the attitude improves as you go further south in Sardinia

You have to be aware that very few Italians speak english in this region, in the south its even worse, last year I used my ital friend/ captain on another boat for doing all my bookings, this year I use my crew girl, or my local agent in Carloforte;-)

Decided to take Bart advice and head to La Maddelana where they actually answered the phone and were very pleasant. The name of the boat Hooligan clearly resonates but just to be clear the boat is named after my father who was given this nickname as an avid a Liverpool fan, as our we incidentally. - and to be clear he was not a Hooligan! Anyway the town quay is very nice and we managed to dock without wiping anyone out. Bit of an altercation over the second bow line but I am learning to shrug my shoulders and smiling - and all is good!!

Well done! La maddelena is one of the few orriginal small old town harbours, in that region, absolutely my style, , the old town is nice, enjoy! Looking at the forecast in your region it looks as if you will be stucked there for a few nights, iirc you can visit a few nice beaches aroond there by foot..

Nice choice. A client of myn with an Itama 45 is also in Madalena as we speak.
I also have a client of mine currently cruising in Sardinia since early June with a Cayman 58 (should be heading in Mapis direction later this week) and he said the response and the kindness and assistance in the marinas has been top drawer. This client has cruised in Greece Ionian side, did all the South Italy round up as well as all Sicily and parts of Tunisia, and also did part of Croatia's on a friends boat.
Just as a note I do not think he did try to berth in Portisco as I did not suggest it to him, as it always get negative reviews.
But he did the holy trinity of Cervo, Rotondo, and Quatu. Many saying the middle one is the best for service and kindness.

Rotondo is nice, but our favourite was Quatu, went there several nights because we liked it that much. We didn’t stay in portisco, just visited by tender, and yes indeed it looked a bit dull. Cervo was our most expensive night ever, but my niece will never forget her 50th birthday ?

We will look around for a Cayman 58, we ve a few weeks more to spend here around Carloforte ?

Hi W, actually they already passed in CF a few days ago, but stayed for just one night because a strongish Mistral was predicted, and they wanted to cross to Tunisia before that.
Nice hull colour btw, was the boat painted? I can't remember to have seen it on any other Caymans...

Have to say that my impression of Italy skyrocketing. Had an issue with a tube on the Williams - frankly something always goes wrong with these things but thats for another day - and was in a nautica shop Maddelana and asked if anyone could come see. Given a number and called and Mario showed up an hour later. Took the boat and duly delivered back the next am before I left. Can't say that was my experience in the Balearics in general! Arrived Cala di Volpe and generator packed in. Called a contact I had who looked after the boat for a month in Sta Teresa and within an hour he was here and all sorted. fantastic. Hope it continues.

Anyway important we share contacts so if anyone has an issue with tubes for tenders or other general boat things in Maddelana then call Mario on +393496239050 . Fabulous and great bloke.

I also highly recommend a guy called Pietro who runs a business called Intersea. He will come to the boat and will get the right person to you and sort. he can be reached on +393407133498 . Could not be more helpful and he will sort most issues out anywhere from Olbia to Alghero.

Excellent. You've had a much better experience than me in that area!
