cal 2-46

Looking at a Cal 2-46, sloop rigged Like the deck saloon, but the internal design is decidedly dated.

I am based in Singapore, but plan to relocate to western Canada in a few Yeats. We'd like to sail the boat back.

Anyone have views on this 1973 boat and how amenable the interior is for reorganising.

I'd like to remove forepeak berth, and sift the head and galley forward. I.d then extend the saloon. Create l or u shape. Aft, is ok, but creating centre
Ine queen might be an option. The boat is sound, just not quite what we'd like inside. We were spoiled with our old boat which was perfectly set up for 2.

His interior was excellent for long term liveaboard. The saloon was lovely, galley a dream and the aft cabin was amazing. She also had stuff like washing machine and dryer. The best feature, IMO, was the walk in engine room complete with workshop.

The guy who owns it also had an Oyster (old, stripped out and fast, one) which he would regularly sail over to Antigua to race (in fact he once asked us to follow him on his Oyster whilst he sailed the Cal - we declined as we were happy where we were, in Malta, with our boat). When he bought the Cal 46 he was a little apprehensive about the whole concept in performance terms. However, he was not overly disappointed and the proof of the pudding was certainly in the eating.

As with many big, heavy, old fashioned boats there is sufficient depth and build quality to do what you like. The only limitation being the depth of your pocket.

I would think that, in Singapore, you will find talented labour at reasonable rates to do whatever you wish.

Good luck.
