Caernarfon Victoria Dock..One step forward two back...

Visited Caernarfon our first time this year. At last they have replaced the old portakabin with excellent new toilet and shower facilities.

Lots of visitors were complimentary about the Disneyfication of the sea front to the river Seiont.

Shame that the harbour still has not been dredged. If you need to make an early northward passage taking advantage of the tide do not use the southern visitors pontoon. We were aground trying to leave the dock as soon as the Gate opened.

We only draw just over a metre!

I just moved Alysia into her new berth in Victoria Dock on Thursday. Chatting to dockmaster Mark I was warned about the shallow bits. Apparently there is quite a bit of silting here and there. I'm in the opposite corner to where you were stuck, but with the gate closed my depth sounder showed 0.0 below the keel at 1.4m draft, though I'm assured it's just soft mud. Interested to see comment about the path. I was unceremoniously booted off on Thursday afternoon - 'construction site mate, sign on the fence'. Fence was open and no sign in sight cos it faced the other way! What I did see looked quite nice though.

They've been ages paving the walkway and I think I preferred it tarmac'd. I don't appreciate them lighting it either, completely unnecessary & I used to enjoy walking back in the dark. A rare chance to see the stars, far too much light pollution about these days.

I agree re lights. Where I live there's no street lights and it's great. The Council have permanently switched off a good few miles of street lighting around Nantwich on various A and B roads which does make you wonder why they were installed in the first place but money grows on trees I guess.

Agree about the light pollution. I haven't been there to see the lights in use yet.
