Caernarfon Harbour Trust

I think that is commendable. I have no problem with giving local residents priority for their local services.

And why should you? You live in the Marina development.

But I live 110 miles away & can still see the reasoning, despite being double disadvantaged by the concept. By that I mean I have high transport costs, higher mooring fees & less access to the boat. Some people in my position even pay local people to monitor their boats creating additional benefits to the community.

Victoria Dock residents pay Harbour dues ON TOP of their exhorbitant fees of around £270/m for a whole year. That also goes for ALL craft moored in the CHT area of control. The quote below is from the CHT web site "charges" page.
Resident Pleasure Craft
Harbour Dues - £16.55 per metre plus VAT per annum. Payable on all craft 6.1 metres overall length and over, wherever moored in the River Seiont, Victoria Dock, Port Dinorwic, Plas Menai, Plas Newydd, Belan and all other mooring sites in the Menai Strait within the Trust's jurisdiction.

unfortunately for us, our local boating area is dire. But being financially disadvantaged against Welsh locals doesn't make you feel like keeping your boat there or, supporting, which we do hugely, the local community. Plymouth, where we were previously, charged all they could to all commers. At least it was fair. As I've said before, disadvantaging the Welsh in anyway in England would cause, rightly so, outrage.

Is it the favoritism towards the Welsh or the Locals that irks you?

Surely you can understand why local ratepayers get reduced fees/shorter waiting lists.
I agree with you totally if such advantages are based on country of birth. Would be surprised if it wasn't illegal nowadays.

Debs, if you want to have a go at the system please do it in your own thread. I am doing this on behalf of all sailors who boat in the CHT areas, regardless of ethnicity and I don't think having go at the policy of giving priority berthing to people who live locally, whatever their nationality, is going to make them join the cause.

I'm certainly not against the Welsh, they have made us very welcome. It's just you pay your money, support the local economy, think the mooring fee's are the going rate, only to find, if you put your relative's address down, if you don't actually live in the area, you will get a cheaper mooring rate. Some of course do actually live there.

But can you imagine the outrage if Fleetwood charged the Welsh more for keeping a boat there than those from Preston.
