I see on the Cabrera website that you can book a buoy from 18:00 of one day until 17:00 of the next day.

What if you only want to go there for the day? Pitch up at 10:00 and push off about 17:00.

Do you have to book a buoy for the night before, not use it overnight and pick it up the following day?

Having only been there once so not an expert but my view is you would have to book the overnight stay in order to be assured of a buoy as there is a no anchoring policy.
I will add it was an amazing experience staying overnight. There is a small bar on the shore where we had evening drinks and a great breakfast!

There are day moorings that you cant book, and are free, just first come first served. You do need a cbrera navigation permit to use them though, but this is free and lasts for 1 year. They will check for this permit if you use the day moorings

In high season the day mooring are all gone by 9/10am.

There are day moorings in the main cabrera anchorage and also some round the 'back' of the main island.id guess there are about 20 day moorings in the main anchorage and the same again around the back.

The day moorings are smaller in size than the bookable moorings, id say theyd be fine for boats up to 40 footers, probably ok with larger boats, but much larger than this might be a bit big

If the day mooring have gone i sometimes just go on a pay for mooring and just be prepared to get kicked off if the rightful owner arrives or the 'mooring police' come round

I am 60ft, do you think that is too big?

I can't work out that permit site, do you have to be a Spanish national with an ID number?

60 foot might be too big, i think there is info on the web somewhere with the size limits, let me see if i can dig it ouy later.

You dont have to be spanish national for the permit, anyone can apply for one,

Ill see if i can find an english language link later on

For the over night moorings you are fine. The day moorings are around the edge and 60 is possibly too big.

At this time of year I don't think you would have a problem for the day on one of orange ( to 20m I believe ) bouys. The guy in the bot is actually very freindly so just do it and ask.

They stopped allocated moorings some years ago which is much simpler as you ( or in tris case someone arriving ) just take one of the correct colour.

If bothering to use the fuel to get there from Cala dor you may as well stay over night. Bouys are cheap !

I agree that bouys are cheap, but the experience of an overnight is not to be missed. Regarding 60 foot boats, when I was there last Sept, there were some very large super yacht type boats I think anchored, but maybe on a bouy at the entrance.
Enjoyed the experience so much am planning another visit this summer.

The main 'bookable' bouys do go up in size up to superyacht length, but the free non bookable bouys are aimed at /only suitable for smaller boats. I think theyre mainly aimed at day boats

Off topic but we visited in 2014, a bit choppy on the way over from EsTrenc but a lovely tranquil place to spend a couple of nights. We booked on-line and was met on approach by the marinello in his rib, he even took our bowline line, so we were safely secured in minutes which was nice…!

Mooring bouys are available up to 20m, website seems to be down at the moment though! Arrive before 18.00 or you will lose it, high season you won't get a mooring for daytime as it's too busy.

We were there last year in August and left at 11.00 ish and there were plenty of free moorings and we are 60 foot but can depend on pot luck if its a busy day?
Like they said if you were there by 10/11 then it would be fine from our experience.
