Cabo Finisterre

Hello,

Good to hear that some motoryacht are cruising the area. I am currently in Santander with BALDER VIII, North sea Trawler 57'. We left Normandy mid of July and did the "passage" from Royan to Fontarrabie. ( 50 to 60 miles / day at 7,5 knts , burning more or less 20L / hour on one engine John deere heavy duty, with hydraulic stabs running, weight 59 T)
I would be happy to find fair winds and sea near Cabo Finisterre. like you Nigel..
We plan to stop in Vigo ( looking for a boatyard for some refit) or further south , Lisbonne or near Gib.

I agree, good to hear that there are fellow motor boat expeditions taking place in this amazing landscape!
We are now tucked up in Nautio Sanxenxo and bound for Vigo once we grab a few days and nights at anchor over the coming weekend.
We will the jump to Porto - then Lisbon and round to Portimao for mid to late September.
You have Galicia and the delightful Rias to come and if they are not already known to you, you are in for a lovely surprise :)

Vigo would appear to have good facilities but to be fair, we have found all the Spanish marinas to be super helpful and willing to assist with anything that we have needed; from booking the next marina for us to arranging electrical engineers for us.

In fact we now have a dilemna as we had planned to summer in the Algarve next year but it's so pleasant up the Rias, as it were, that we may just head back here for a three months next summer.

If you have any q's re good anchorages, marinas or anything else, please email me on
nigel@cornishcottageholidays.co.uk I'd be delighted to share our thoughts.

Good luck with Cape finisterre and I'd advise to make the transit from Carmarinas to Muros. You have a great anchorage in the marina entrance at Carmarinas and Muros Marina is fantastic as is the town.

Fuel is getting more expensive now, it's 1.20€ here in Sanxenxo so plan for that if you see any for <1.10€ you are doing well.

Safe and pleasant travels to you.

Nigel and Ann

Bonjour,

Thank you very much indeed for the infos.I approve: spanish people in marinas are very friendly and helpful. As weel, we do not speak spanish but in french or with my broken english, they are fair...
I am also balancing: winter in the rias ( Vigo) or further south Lisbonne...
Considering diesel, I should reach Gib without refueling. At 1,20 or 1,10 I say no... But If i stay during winter in Spain I will keep two of my tanks empty...so so may be not a proper option.
Do you know what is the price of diesel in Gib? Like in Guernesey or more expansive!
You understand I am "supporting" red diesel"...

Bon voyage à vous aussi.

Not sure about the fuel in Gib, perhaps a med boater might read this and answer?
I would strongly recommend Muros as a wintering berth, lovely town, lovely people - could be a little small but a very well protected marina and very good, longstanding team.

We've just left Sanxenxo and now head south to Porto - if our paths cross give us a shout.

Warm regards
