Cables in mast

I was pulling through a replacement cable for steaming and deck light on the (currently horizontal) mast of my Sadler 29 when the mouse parted. Evidently the friction of the anti-clank foam and the kinking of the new wiring going through the small hole on the mast was too much for the join. So I've now got the old cable protruding from the heel of the mast, through a hole tailored to fit it and a hole not much bigger 15 feet up the mast, partly obscured by the anti-clank foam. I've tried fishing for the upper end with a wire coat hanger made into a hook, but without success. I guess I shall have to drill out the rivets holding on the mast heel, but even then, I shall still have to find a way of getting the new cable to - and through - the little hole up the mast. Any advice/miracle solutions?

Just done the same, also the masthead, but without losing the end.

Try a stiff cable/wire from the half height level,if you can get into the conduit, assuming you have one(possibly fence wire). The wire must be long enough to reach the bottom when pushed through.
If unsuccessful you may have to wait until the mast is up and drop a weighted mouse down, still with the access to the conduit problem.
Taking the Heel off in my case would have been a much bigger Job.

Good luck---you may need it.

I dont'understand why removing the foot of the mast is said to be so difficult. Maybe other masts are different to mine. I just drilled out the 4 rivets and the foot came off. It will be easy to push stout fence wire down the mast. Make sure you use monel rivets when putting the foot back on.
Good luck Paul
