Cable seal grommet bush rubber thingy

These are the deck plugs for my tricolour and deck/steam lights, and they're good solid Made-in-England aluminium things which for all I know are original to my 1970s boat. The contacts need cleaning but otherwise they're in good nick ... except for the cable-entry seals which are perished. I've tried looking for replacements but what are these things even called? One is in two parts which compress and expand against the cable like an olive, the other is single. So far my best bet seems like o-rings or even some ptfe. But I want to get it right, given the amount of rain these things see. Any electricians around?

For what they cost, just buy replacement plugs with proper shiny chrome on them.

You can get new ones from Amazon, maybe cheaper elsewhere. I think they are made by a firm called TREM.

Self amalgamating tape?

Wrap a bit around the cable then screw the cap down on top of it. Then unscrew it again and inspect.

With a bit of luck you've made a perfectly sized grommet.

Rubber grommet, you can easily make some from rubber sheet

Just buy some IP68 plastic cable glands and extract the seal. The glands are only about 20p each. glands

Thanks guys. It's tempting to buy shiny new plugs but I just hate throwing away good equipment for want of a grommet.

I'll see if I can find a cable gland seal of the right size, otherwise it's probably self-amalgamating tape.

Personal I would bin them as they leak which in turn rots the deck core and mast base .you usually don't discover they leak until it's to late.
