Cable markers

Any smart ideas for cheap cable markers ? so I can ID cables I'm running. dont fancy electrician tape as it goes 'sticky' or dries out after a year or two, paper/card will go soggy/fade , permanant blackpen on white cable might work (or the reverse) , white cable ties marked up ?

Have searched the 'professional' sites but its all 'bulk' supplies and mostly number tags

Great labels not at all like dymo.
 
On most boats I've had, an overlapping wrap of masking tape and write on with biro seems to do the job - cheap and cheerful and seems to stand the test of time

Pack of assorted coloured cable ties from Maplin, BnQ etc.
If you need more colours, you can use more than one tie and mix the colours. Much easier and quicker than trying to label every cable, just record the tie colours for future reference!

I run a panel building business.

We use Cembre pvc holder PMF-01 and thermal printed tags

These fit cables 0.5-2.5mm2 above this we zip tie them on.

Supply me with a word or excel list and I might be persuaded to run them off the printer for you depending on quantity.

Nb numbering better than naming as only small tags.

Holders have to be slipped on before end termination.

We wont use cheap plastic clip-ons or stick ons as much of our work goes into hot and humid conditions found in Middle east, India, China and Industrial laundries.

I use something similar to Stork's Brother label-maker. Worked well for my complete re-wire last year. The tape is made of three layers - a base, a printed layer, and a clear protective layer over the top - so I think the writing ought to stay put.

I'll probably use it to label my running rigging this year - last time I used marker on masking tape, and it faded to illegibility over the course of a winter. I have three crates of string when I de-rig the boat (traditional rig, four sails) and while I can usually figure out what each one is, it's a lot easier to have it all labelled.

Like this one sounds easy no writing on labels etc just note the colours on the wiring diag
 
As I am about to commence a complete rewiring project I have been investigating the tubular colour and number coded markers used by professionals inside panels. On Ebay it is possible to buy a 200 piece pack like this for £1 or a little more. Screwfix do single colours with 1200 pieces for £16.40, expensive and wasteful for a small project needing at least four colours. I found a kit for £70 in UK and another that looks good but doesn't give a price. So it looks like I shall be waiting for a delivery from Hong Kong.
